should i use the Optical Audio port when connected to PC? Quick setup guide does not mention using it on PC but does on console, so i'm unsure.

It is not required for PC. The mixamp is a 7.1 sound card and will be viewed that way by Windows. It then takes the resulting sound channels and converts them for use in headphones via dolby 7.1 all over usb. You can use optical but it is not recommended. Save the optical for consoles.

without optical, you cant use the voice to game ratio dial though, and it seems i dont get the surround sound effect without it.

That is decidedly not true. I can use it just fine. USB installs 3 devices, 1 for game audio, 1 for chat audio and 1 for mic recording.

    Hey Archer,

This was only a requirement on our older products. If you purchase the MixAmp Pro TR or the A50 Wireless and Base Station, these both include a built-in sound card which can pull surround sound and allow full functionality without an optical cable or a separate sound card.
