First of all, just wanna say hi to everyone at Astro and all of the community members. After a stint on Twitter about the A40s, @ASTROGaming sent me here, and I figured now that I haz internetz again (other then my phone), I can do so.

Soooooooooooo I've been tossing around the idea of biting the bullet and ordering a pair of the A40s. Everything I read praises them (not to say they're perfect... yet), and I don't disagree. I'm a pseudo fanboy in all reality.

I originally bought a pair of Tritton AX360s (semi-PoS that they were), but have had a broken mic clip for ages and about 3 months ago I steped on the cable standing up to get my beer off the table and literally broke the headband in two just about the one side. A friend helped to put them back together, but now they sit funny and aren't very comfortable for long.

The common... beef... I seem to read in all the reviews is that the sound direction/spatial differentiation isn't quite as good as the Tritton's. I'm not going to say I'm a true audiophile, but I have a better ear then most. Although we can all agree that the AX360s weren't designed half as well as the A40s, it was a good starting platform.

I haven't experienced Dolby Headphone, so after all that crap I just wrote, my question is: will I be satisfied with Dolby Headphone over a multi-speaker system SPECIFICALLY related to direction? When I game, I am more interested in being able to PINPOINT an enemy location rather then just a general idea of where they are coming from. I want to know if there's a guy above me and directly to my rear left, not just a rough idea that he's somewhere behind me and kinda on the left.

In NO WAY am I hating on the A40 system. I love it, the idea of it, it's incredible and I REALLY want to try it out. The other option are the AXPros It's at least a $100 difference after shipping and such, since I can get the Tritton's here in canada = MUCH cheaper shipping.

Thanks everyone,

Will I can perfectly pinpoint people in 3D view with the A40, I have good ears as well. They are really worth it. No its just forward, back, left, right, top, or bottom either though. Its exact, yet again if you have good ears and can pay attention to that kind of detail which I can.

You can basically pinpoint anybody and anything with these headsets, from any position in which the game engine allows you to hear. I'm pretty sure that is one of the reasons why all the hardcore gamers (FPS, RTS, RPG, etc) buy these headsets.

I agree with Killdren. The ASTRO A40s are great at pinpointing an enemy's location. I have actually been able to embarrass a couple of people just because I could hear them sneaking up on me when I use my A40s.
