First of all, just wanna say hi to everyone at Astro and all of the community members. After a stint on Twitter about the A40s, @ASTROGaming sent me here, and I figured now that I haz internetz again (other then my phone), I can do so.
Soooooooooooo I've been tossing around the idea of biting the bullet and ordering a pair of the A40s. Everything I read praises them (not to say they're perfect... yet), and I don't disagree. I'm a pseudo fanboy in all reality.
I originally bought a pair of Tritton AX360s (semi-PoS that they were), but have had a broken mic clip for ages and about 3 months ago I steped on the cable standing up to get my beer off the table and literally broke the headband in two just about the one side. A friend helped to put them back together, but now they sit funny and aren't very comfortable for long.
The common... beef... I seem to read in all the reviews is that the sound direction/spatial differentiation isn't quite as good as the Tritton's. I'm not going to say I'm a true audiophile, but I have a better ear then most. Although we can all agree that the AX360s weren't designed half as well as the A40s, it was a good starting platform.
I haven't experienced Dolby Headphone, so after all that crap I just wrote, my question is: will I be satisfied with Dolby Headphone over a multi-speaker system SPECIFICALLY related to direction? When I game, I am more interested in being able to PINPOINT an enemy location rather then just a general idea of where they are coming from. I want to know if there's a guy above me and directly to my rear left, not just a rough idea that he's somewhere behind me and kinda on the left.
In NO WAY am I hating on the A40 system. I love it, the idea of it, it's incredible and I REALLY want to try it out. The other option are the AXPros It's at least a $100 difference after shipping and such, since I can get the Tritton's here in canada = MUCH cheaper shipping.
Thanks everyone,
