I don't think Dolby 7.1 is as important as DTS imo, it seems to becoming a common standard(even in games). If you want more bass you can use the mixamp as normal getting the same effect with different headphones, the astros are not super thumpy so subtle sounds don't get drowned out.

- The new 2010 MixAMP is Dolby Digital 7.1 Ready. But Xbox or PS3 cannot output 7.1 by TOSLink yet.
- Less Bass is better as you can hear crisp sound under the Bass
- Wires over Wireless
- There was new colours :D

I <3 Bass(not the crazy shake your entire body over done car bass). Without it the sound is too sterile for my liking.

1) Option to mute mic from playing through headphones. Picking up keyboard clicks and other noises around desk/gaming area defeats purpose of closed-ear headphones while open-ear headphones don't need the "feature" of hearing yourself speak at all. Give a toggle switch on the unit to mute the mic so you can't hear yourself.
2) Analog inputs or at least some sort of add-on adapter which accepts analog input. Analog is probably the best 5.1 option for PC gaming. Having to get a DDL soundcard which also supports 5.1 through spdif out is kind of crazy just to get PC gaming working correctly.
3) Optical switcher accessory or some sort of optical input mixer so you can have multiple toslink cables coming into the MixAmp at once.

Hi EpicNerd,
Thanks for for the feedback!
Just to clarify, we do have a mic mute on the upper portion of our Quick-Disconnect cable on the A40 Headset. Additionally, on PC, you can mute your microphone so you don't hear what you're saying while still allowing for an input. That will depend on your OS and sound card.

I think EpicNerd was wanting a mic muting button so his own voice, or mic, won't play through the headphones, but the mic would still transmit over to the MixAmp (so an option to remove the mic monitoring through the headphones).
Does the mic monitoring (where you can hear your own voice) happen only with the A40s? Or any headphone and mic combination?

Maybe there is an option on the Astro headeset but if you use your own headset, there is no way to stop from hearing your own voice through your headphones - not that I'm aware of.

The microphone monitoring is actually a feature of the MixAmp and not the headset. An option there would be to move the GAME/VOICE balance dial all the way to game.
Hope this helps!

my thoughts.
Wires are a must, performance comes first for me.
the bass is fine, they aren't music headphones they are for gaming. the EQ is fine.
5.1 is fine but 7.1 would be interesting to try.
I could care less about colors.
i'd like the 2.5mm-2.5mm controller cord to come in more lengths and for the quality to be looked at for that cord along with making the RF choke on it smaller.
I'd like to see the jacks in the mixamp get an upgrade to more durable jacks and more replacement parts available eg, replacement frames
the hold on the mic swivel point to be upgraded, possibly brass clips instead of plastic ones.
some internal work on the mixamp to be done to eliminate the mic overload with loud noises and the buzz sometimes associated with the battery circuit.

I agree with the new colors option and i also think it would be awesome if you could change what color you wanted on the side of the headset where the speaker tags go.

If you move the Game/Voice balance all the way to Game, you can't hear other people talk.
I Want:
1) To hear other people talk clearly
2) Adjust the balance of people talking vs game sound
I Don't Want:
1) To have my own voice played back through my headset

This is my problem with the mixAmp as well.
I do not want to hear my mic voice back through my headphones. I do not understand how this is a "feature" when you can not turn it off.
In fact my mic playback through my headphone is so loud that just the sound from handling the headphone or putting it on causes intense high pitched feedback.
When I just touch the mic to adjust it I get loud noises in my ears.
If I go into my windows 7 Recording interface I see my Mic level is at 0 and have looked at all sorts of features to try to adjust this sound and I can not find anything that will not also either
A) mute the mic completely or
B) turn off all sounds including other sound from headset or others talking in a chat environment.
Surely there is a way around this or you guys would not tolerate spending $250 on a headset and amp that dose this to you.
Thanks!

Tech support fixed my problem with feedback and echo.
All I had to do was reseat the big red coupler that had come loose.
The headphone and mixamp are working nicely now. Ventrilo, in game etc.

I disagree that this is a problem. My voice is barely audible when played back through my headset (not the A40). It's not any different really than hearing my own voice when I speak normally. It's actually a little reassuring to be able to quickly test my mic with a slight tap. What about it bothers you? Are you hearing yourself breathe? If so, your mic is too close to your mouth.

Things I would like to see:
1) line level analog output - to allow use of an external headphone amp post-Dolby Headphone processing.
2) Dolby Virtual Speaker processing - to feed line level signal back to TV or external speakers for when gaming without a headset. Would provide a very affordable surround sound experience without having to have a full AV receiver.
3) selectable Dolby Headphone surround modes (i.e DH1, DH2, and DH3)
4) License Smyth Virtual Surround technology for use in gaming. I understand the 3D soundstage achieved using this is amazing; head and shoulders above Dolby Headphone.
