Now don't get all uptight because im talking about another headset besides the a40's. but it has come to my attention on the web that the Turtle Beach HPX's + the mix amp > the whole a40 setup. Is this true?? cause its cheaper. and im struggling over which to get. I have some friends who own the a40's, but they are sold that the a40 is nothing short of "god like" compared to any headset on the market today. so i cant get an honest opinion from them. some say virtual 5.1 is better than 4 speakers in each cup like hpx is. but others swear its easy to tell direction.

so which one guys!?

Well, you are asking on an Astro forum "which is better ____ or Astro's". Typically, most people here will be Astro enthusiasts or users, and probably not many have other headsets (or perhaps they have used others, but the HPX is pretty new). My suggestion is checking out perhaps the mlgpro.com forums, or visiting the avsforums.com.

From a lot of reading on those boards, people prefer having 1 "quality" speaker in each can, instead of 4 "mediocre" speakers in each can.

Let me use the illustration of diamonds (though you may be kind of young and not yet understand all of these things yet...). You could buy a large karat diamond, have it be almost colorless (D-F color scale), great clarity, and a flawless cut, and it'd be a good sum of money. Or you could go cheaper, get something in the G-I color range, have some clouds in the gem, and the cut isn't ideal. To the normal human eye, not much changes, but to a gemologist, they see a lot more of these differences.

To most people, most headphones will sound the same. It takes a delicate ear to hear the different nuances to these things. So take most of these thing with a grain of salt and I'd suggest borrowing a pair of HPX headphones from a friend (if you know someone who has one) and doing a blind sound test of the system, and see what you like better. Don't necessarily go for what is "in" or sponsered by a gaming company, but go with what you think sounds better (and what you can afford).

Hi Knees,

We don't like to comment on or disparage our competitors. For the best opinions on our products, we suggest reading reviews of our ASTRO A40 Audio System from leading online review websites or magazines.

Our general stance on multi-speaker headsets is that they are not ideal for our MixAmp. This is because of our usage of Dolby Headphone technology and how our MixAmp specifically is designed to output into two channels. Without going into an analogy, I'm sure you can understand how that wouldn't be the most efficient setup for your gaming.

Because headsets can be so subjective, this is why we trust reviewers to make the best call. If you have any specific technical questions on our A40s, please let us know and we'll do our best to answer them for you.

Cheers,

- ASTRO Stanimal

That alone, is enough to sway anyone's decision to a full Astro set.

The reviews don't lie, and the A40's are above all others right now, and I'm not a fanboy...just a guy with a lot of audio experience that appreciates the A40 audio system for what it is. ;)

Well I just got my Astros and I absolutely LOVE them! When I first put them on the comfort was amazing and when I started up my game I physically had to check if I had my speakers on still because of hte surround sound in my headset; I actualyl thought it was coming out of my speakers haha. Astros all the way IMO.
