Wow, nice speeds. SF Bay Area won't be seeing FIOS anytime soon. =(

Well for me, it's just that my area is still mainly built on old architecture for phone lines. It took Comcast all the way up until this Summer to upgrade their lines so that we could receive more than 20 HD channels. I know even in SF, it was a while before you could get aDSL.

Ouch, living in NYC has its advantages ;). I just got Red Alert 3 by D2D deal, 6.8 gb download on full steam at 4mb/sec took me like 30 minutes(prime time). My previous ISP was great, but they are stuck on such old tech. More people in my building were getting cable, so my prime time speeds took a serious nose dive(I was dling at 5k/sec at one point) No such issues with fios, web page loads are much snappier as a result as my bandwith is not being gimped(besides obvious bandwith issues on the websites end). The price was great, but go basically the same price FIOS gave me 15x more upload and 2.3x Download without any bandwith gimping from my neighbors.
I am a heavy user, but I don't torrent/abuse my upload.
I am honestly stoked right now, even their digital tv is better. HD channels instant load with no artifacts where on Cablevision(iO) it would always lag a few seconds. and take forever to load the HD channels. The widgets are tightly integrated.
Only thing I don't like is how freaken complicated they made their control system. Too many layers of complexity which is ok for me but explaining it to someone technologically deficient who had trouble with the previous is hell.
regardless it is a nice belated christmas gift from Verizon coming to my building this week.

I know what you are talking about.... I lived in Japan for 3 years and had FIOS run right to my apt. I had a 100Mb connection. I had to actually buy a better router that supported more than 100 open half connections concurrently. Speaking of which I know XP has a limitation of 10 open connections but not sure about Vista or 7 but there is a simple fix to open as many connections as your want ^^_. Oh, and I paid only $80 a month for my FIOS :D.
It was like baking your cake, having it, and eating it all at the same time.... MWUhahahahahha.
Oh, what have been your actual fastest DL speeds and do you have a HDD raid??

4mb/sec via most programs is my highest. Once I hit 5mb/sec. I am getting more than my plan calls for, undoubtly because I am one of the first. I anticipate it settling into the speed I am paying for over time as more people get it. Which is 35/30,which is what speedtest usually reads but I seem to be able to push it further in actual real world situations.
or 40mbps and 50mbps respectively. I don't have raid on my drives, I don't have any drives to match my fastest one which is a WD Rapter 150gb. Was never my main priority, but with the new SSD's raid is moot, can't wait to put one of those suckers as my new main drive one day. Problem with other countries is they are bandwith limited, if I was bandwith limited I would be in debt right now.
Since I got this new connection I been going on a downloading binge, since I have no slow downs. When I downloaded my first 18gb file it was almost TOO fast, I was seeing it like an hour later, it was freaken nuts. No more prime time drop offs that I started experiencing with cable either.
My best result put me in the 99%, but I just got some other loosers IP address today so whoever has mine has a pretty bad ass speed test record. Lucky I saved my pic

Only on Comcast here. Luckily we did receive the DOCSYS 3.0 upgrade last year. I'm only on a 12/2 account (Don't to pay in excess for their 22/6 or 50/10 account). Here's my speed test result from Comcast.net.

Problem with the cable companies is they had a chance to lay down new fiber optics lines but sat on their laurels while Verizon tookup the opportunity. the old infrastructure just can't handle the way the internet is used now. Rather than adopting though they think about their pockets first before pride of having the best service.
Already hearing some of these companies using bandaids to fix their issues rather than actual upgrading. The bandaid being pay for bandwith with extremely limited and meager bandwith limitations. Optimum still has no limits(the service I was on).
While optics and coax are similar, optics are just plain better. Especially over long distances.
For short distances it doesn't matter as much (hence why verizon still uses the pre-installed coax linesin your apartment or house to easily wire it.)

Hey Ready4war,
While having one banner in your message/sig may be enough, having 7 images tend to spam up the forum a little bit. Do you mind reducing that and just posting one image of your choice? Thanks.
