I am almost having the same problem, but not quite at the yelling extent.
When I talk normally, sometimes the mic doesn't pick it up, or my friends will tell me that I sound like I'm really far away from the mic. Usually I have to raise my voice slightly to get it to pick up normally.
I remember one guy on the MLG forums said that reversing the 2.5mm cable for the Mixamp->controller connection helped him out. You could try that.

Hi bigmak and Neomop,
If either of you are having issues, please contact our Support Team (http://www.astrogaming.com/support) as they can troubleshoot your mics. This could simply be a misconfiguration of settings an cabling.
Hope this helps!

How far away is the Mic from your Mouth. It does bend alot to get as close as possible. Also try it the other speaker, if you have it on the left then switch it to the right.

Please contact ASTRO Support (http://www.astrogaming.com/support/) here. They will help you with any support you need.
Also as a confusion I have made. Please do not use any 2.5 to 2.5mm Cable, As Staminal said it will not work and may simply buzz.

Express your individuality and check out this fresh new take on the award-winning A40 Headset - the BXR Special Edition - now available in Red, Blue and Military Green. Each new headset color comes with a unique set of BXR SE Speaker Tags, custom designed to highlight your new headset's eye-catching colorway. And don't forget the bling. No makeover would be complete without a little shine - so we chrome-painted the grills underneath each tag for that little extra pop.
