View Full Version : A40s with Bad Weather :P

So, I've been using my A40's in like -25 / -30 celcius(-13 / -22 fahrenheit).. and they still seem to be working great even in that weather. Now what I'm wondering is, were they ever tested with cold temperatures?:P and if so, can these handle those kinds of temps? If not, have you had any bad experiences with cold weather or know of any problems that happen with them in cold weather?
This applies mainly to the ASTRO crew, but it can also be to the community.

Hey DBakerr,
Never tested these in subzero temperatures so we really have no idea. Let us know if anything happens, now I'm curious.

Only thing I can think of is the actual cable, might add resistance to the audio path. If it is used in such temperatures with the wire exposed in such a way. My assumption is your keeping the wire and headphones warm in some way shape or form. Anything caused by freezing should and would clear up after warming it up a bit.
Another assumption would be if kept in such low temperatures and the actual speaker starts to freeze there might be possible damage if you try and listen to stuff before it warms up.
I wouldn't know the temperature limits either though ;)

Will do Stanimal.
I don't keep the wire outside of my clothing, that would just be silly in this weather. I keep it under my hoodie / coat. I'm kind of thinking that the speaker tags help with cold weather as well, or at least stall the inevitable of frozen speakers. When you of course have the speaker tags off there's quite a bit of ventilation to the speakers so yeah..
I'll keep you all informed.

I do not think that anything too bad would happen but still I wouldn't take mine outside the house, due to the snow, rain and ice. Although I would love to take them to college to listen to music, as everyone uses Skullcandys. Maybe I might purchase another Headset Only.

Mine have held up just fine in the cold as well, and I'm in similar temp range as you DBaker, so I think we're good to go!

I don't even remember the last time it hit -5 degrees in NYC. It used to get COLD up here but it doesn't get cold anymore. (Everyone saying global warming is a myth hasn't stepped out their door and realized different temperatures). Don't miss the winters full of snow though, now it just rains alot.

Forgot to update a while ago:
-35 / -40 Celcius(-31 Fahrenheit, / -40 Fahrenheit), still same quality of Astros! :)

Well, I would think that that would mess up the speakers, but it would actually help the wires, as the cold would condense them and cause them to conduct better.
