i have a universal component cable for an original xbox 360 with the hole for a fiber optic cable.

My question is can i cut of all the wires leading up to the square plastic piece that connects to the xbox since i will not be using them? just wondering if anyone has done this to clean up the look of it, and will it effect it from working as a fiber optic pass through?

I would tape them together rather than cut them off. You might actually need them one day. I have the Energizer Universal Adapter Component plugs that are good for the XBOX 360, PS3 and Wii and they're black. If you have the same I would use black electrical tape to tape them back and to itself.

i have the same thing Acid, and you know first hand how annoying all those extra wires are just for a fiber optic connection. I was just wondering if anyone cut them off.

i dont even have an xbox right now, i bought the adapter last time i had an xbox. I will be getting an xbox sometime within the next week or so. Not sure if i will get the new slim style xbox or not. Does the new slim xbox have a stand alone fiber optic connection?

Yes, it has it's own optical port. You no longer need the one on the cable adapter.

Also, if you're using the Xbox 360S, monoprice's premium optical cables do not fit into the optical jack because the housing cap of the optical plug is too big. Just a heads up in case you buy your cables there.

The only problem I found when using a component cable for the optical is if you accidently change inputs on your tv then your Xbox will restart. This happened to me a lot when my kids would grab the remote and either hit input or a random number which put the tv on the ant input.

Quick question, Since you mentioned the other cable being too big would the 6ft Astro Cable work fine with a slim?
