I bought the AD700 after a long decision between it and the HD 555. Heard great reviews from head-fi about it with the mixamp. Better than the A40 (sorry). Although I still have the A40.

This is what I'll probably be doing. Clip on mics are cheap and I need a noise canceling boom mic. Another reason Astro should release a standalone mic that's not specifically made for the A40.

I'm going to be getting this soundcard for them on PC http://cgi.ebay.com/AuzenTech-X-FI-Forte-7.1-Low-Profile-PCI-E-Sound-Card-_W0QQitemZ280399122130QQcmdZViewItem

If anyone has any better sound card I can get for that price or under let me know.

Personally Ive used HD555 with the mixamp and they really do have a better sound and quality but the mic is the hard part. I just simply put a broken wired mic by my ear and the headphones hold it on my ear. Yeah i know thats ghetto but discomfort wont stop my gaming! A wireless 360 mic also works well with using headphones instead of A40s.

I'm the same way. HD555's do sound better due to the fact that the are really hardcore audiophile headphones, built to sound the best of the best for their price and they truly do. Again though with those I had to ghetto style it with the mic, A40's are a much better system overall for usage. If I'm just listening to music though I tend to use the Sennheisers.

EDIT: Just realized that I quoted you Eero and you were talking about my headphones, hahahaha

I use Senn HD595 for open sound and the HD 25-1 ii for closed. For certain games, I like the open sound so that i can feel the wide open sound stage, and the closed sound for games that have a more limited effect, like racing or fighting games. Neither of these do not have a mic input like the A40's, so team gaming is impossible...

i chose AD700 over the 555...tough choice.

Until I decided to get the Astro A40s, I've only used earbuds before. I'm using V-Moda Vibe at the moment. Until my A40 arrives (scheduled for tomorrow). :)

I need to find a boom mic that has a mute thingy though. In comparison the AD700 isn't as bassy as the A40 with the mixamp but its clearer, like with more detail. Its pretty much whatever I'm in the mood for using on 360.

Also my AD700 is amazing without an amp, and I have the Auzentech X-Fi Forte 7.1 (built in amp and mic pre-amo) on order already. Can't wait to see how they are with the amp.

I recomend the hd 595 much better signal resmonse not too much more of a cost on ebay, also their highs and lows are much better then the hd 555 and even the AD700 the mids are about the same, and if you want true audiophile shound get the HD 595 and you can get a mic to go over the headsets ear cup becusae of its open cup design ... works well

I use a pair of MDR-7506 w/ the Beyerdynamic pad mod for comfort.

Personally prefer them to the Seinheisers in terms of sound. Never actually tried the AD's though.
