If you click on this link, you can buy a $20 Amazon gift card for $10. (http://livingsocial.com/deals/21336?ref=personalized-link-box-4168882&rpi=4168882)

I'm not telling you SHOULD, but I am telling you that I did it. :)

Please don't ban me! Or I will "accidentally" shoot my teammate at the next AG Community event... mwahahaha!

Wellll ... Amazon.com is not a sponsor of the deal so the offers not coming direct from Amazon but through it's authorised reseller Living Social. They will be expecting something in return for their $10 and will be using this as an effective customer aquisition strategy ie; your email details and basic purchasing history. It's not a rip off I was just pointing out that you generally don't get something for nothing although if the next three people to get one show their thanks to Mewie for the heads up ... he gets his for free .... bargain number two! :D

Very true.

Fortunately, gmail does a good job with the spam filtering. And LivingSocial seems to be pretty legit with its offerings and status as a company - I can always opt-out when I feel it's necessary or threaten them with Anti-Spam laws.

But yes, that would suck big time if they SOLD my email address to other vendors later on.

I use to get spanned with university of Phoenix stuff and no matter what it would always get through the spam filter. Till I emailed back threatening them. Probably wasn't smart at all but they stopped emailing me

With Gmail, you can add a + and then a word to your email address so for example. Lets say you didn't trust the ASTRO website with your email address, you could do this.

Enter your email on the website as bob+astro@gmail.com,all mail sent to that email would get redirected to bob@gmail.com but if ASTRO sold you email and you got a ton of spam from different companies, you could set up a filter on Gmail to delete all email sent to the bob+astro@gmail.com address. Genius!

Also just to point out to users that ASTRO does not sell or share your email address. I just used ASTRO as an example.

Socks, can you requote my last post as I've changed the email address used as an example. It might be real and I don't wan't a bot capturing it and sending spam to it. Cheers.

This just blew my mind in so many ways. Thanks for giving me a new way to fight spam...... I hate spam emails

No problem. Another spam trick is using periods. Periods or "full stops in England" are not recognised in Gmail so as an example, you could have an email as bob@gmail.com. But if spam get clever enough to remove the + trick in my last post you could use the period trick to your advantage.

If you signed up to the ASTRO website, you could set your email as b.ob@gmail.com, all email would get redirected to Gmail, Gmail would remove the "." and then forward it to your email without the ".". If ASTRO ever sold the email to other vendors, you could just set a filter to delete all email from b.ob@gmail.com. Again. Genius.

Also It doesn't matter how many periods he puts in his alias as long as the periods are between letters and there isn't two periods next to each other it will work and all email will get redirected to your real address without the periods. Genius.

- b.o.b@gmail.com = Right! (recognised in gmail as bob@gmail.com)
- b.ob@gmail.com = Right! (recognised in gmail as bob@gmail.com)
- b..ob@gmail.com = Wrong! (too many periods next to each other)
- bob.@gmail.com = Wrong! (period next to the @ sign)
- .bob@gmail.com = Wrong! (period not in between letters)

on a similar note I use my Gmail to forward emails I get from classmates to my student email :p works like a charm.

I also have a filter to take recurring spam and send it directly into the trash.
as you can see I have a lot of filters :p but I dont get too much spam :)
GMAIL FTW!

Hmm, so this is what Gmail in the US looks like... I want that free call button. Also Alpha, if you don't already know, you missed your email almost three times on the picture, but you might of got bored of blurring them as you did the one of the Gmail Tab.

Also same here Warblade, I can see some peeps including Stan and it's spelt correctly with the lower 's' like his alias. But that probably came from the first part of his email.

Also who is this Zachery you speak off Warblade? haha.

Yes, you did,

On the top of your browser above the file button and next to the settings button is where you email is revealed. On the left hand side your full name is revealed. On your education picture at the top of the browser, email revealed again.

Also is the Zune Software any good? I was thinking of getting a Zune Pass and switching over from iTunes and later in the year maybe importing a Zune Player over here / Contracting my self a HTC HD Windows Phone 7.

I LOVE Zune, iTunes is just too cluttered.
The software is great and the players are unbreakable...
When I dropped my iPod and it cracked the screen, it never worked again, I slammed my Zune in a car door when I got out(buds snagged on seatbelt and got jammed in door) and it shattered the screen, but it still works great, AND I can see clearly!

Hmm. Tempting to join.

The one thing that annoys me a little is that the Zune Pass is awesome but some songs and albums are not downloadable using it and you have to purchase them. Another thing that annoys me with the Zune Software is that some albums from various bands are missing, but still, guess I could import them from a CD.

I will give it a test drive the weekend, see what I think of it. I used my Zune Pass on the Xbox, so going to have to purchase a month and then if I like it, just let it roll on.

Also have you tried renting a movie on it. Does it work the same as the Xbox 360 1080p streaming?

Hmm, Netflix, that's a movie steaming company right?

We don't have that, but we do have Sky Player which lets us watch unlimited movies and live TV.

I have a membership to Netflix. It's an online movie rental and movie streaming service. I mostly rent my movies and then I get them a couple days later in the mail. Watch them then send them back and they send me what's next on my queue. I like it. It's pretty nice. :)

its a waste of money after a while, but if you need to catch up on like 50+ movies its great, I used to have it, but now bought it again to watch an anime so i didnt have to rent it.

I see. Well we have something near that called LoveFilm in the UK. Same thing, you make a queue and they let you keep two - five films, tv series or console games at a time (depending on your plan and you can mix and match). You then send them back once finished and they send you your next one on the list. They do movie streaming as well, but it's not HD and sometimes doesn't even work so I quit after that.

Netflix seems good and I think I would enjoy it but shamefully not in the UK. I checked :p

The only downside to Netflix is they don't have console game renting. I have to rent from another online service called Gamefly. Gamefly kind of sux though. New releases, if you don't rent it exactly when it comes out it gets rented out and you have to wait forever for the game to eventually become available to you. That's why I don't have a membership with them anymore. :(

WHAT!? Netflix isn't international!?

Dang, maybe I really should invest in their soaring stocks... they haven't even served our friends from overseas! That's mind-boggling considering how much success they're having.

Netflix is HUGE. And it's growing. I only work a few minutes away from their headquarters too...

I just love Netflix's origins. Before Netflix was created, the founders pitched the idea to Blockbuster (America's former leader in movie rentals). The executive committee literally laughed out loud and said Netflix would be a failure.

Less than 10 years later, Blockbuster is NOTHING compared to Netflix. Pwned.
