A40 new 2011 version

Hey guys I just heard about the new A40 2011 version although there isnt that much of a difference I would like to know your guy's thoughts or opinons on it. I personally think its really cool and I wanna see how much different the mic is but my only question is with better ear cusions how would that provide better sound or base or is it because there would be less of the sound leaking? But anyway I am looking forward to what you guys think of them. And if you ordered before these came out soon they will be selling some sort of kit allowing you to upgrade your A40's so dont worry :D

These A40's are already out but the only new thing is the ear cusions and the mic but if you already have
A40's and you want these new features you will have to purchase the Tournament upgrade kit so you can have the features as well.

I think that all new systems that are sent out this month will get the new 2011 astros.Let see is someone has more info but in sure yours will be the new ones

Maybe it's because it let's less sounds through so it just sounds that bass is better. Bass is just what's missing from A40's, at least so reviews say. I hope they get these new ones to European suppliers quick!

why? i wasnt waiting for new models but now i have the opportunity to get them. I could care less about the mic but more bass is always a plus. Saying that im probly not returning them, but i have a few days to think about it. Hell i might order a new set tonight and try them out to see if they are any better.

The new mic will be similar to the old mic and won't vary that much. It will still pick up your voice pretty much exactly the same. Where it differs is that it won't pick up outside noise as much (which is only important if you game in a noisy environment), and the mic will bend and stay in place more.

The ear cushions should help some with those outside noises and for those who like a bit more bass, the sound isolation from inside the cups will help.

As you can see, these were both done in consideration of the MLG Tournament environment. It's not a drastic change, yet it's something that some people may want (and why we'll be releasing a Tournament Grade Upgrade Kit in a month or two, pricing TBA).

If you have a real issue with not having "the latest and greatest" and are still within your 15-day return period, you can return your current set and order the 2011 A40 edition. One note, these are only shipping out in Black and White, no BXR's of these are available at the moment.

I'll definitely want these. My roommate watches TV and I can easily hear it through my headset when I game. Pretty distracting since we like the same shows and my attention ends up gravitating towards his screen lmao :eek:

I'll definitely be getting the new upgrade kit, but is there actual a difference in the headset other than the Mic and Ear Pads? Surely they've upgraded the speakers a little, or even the actual "structure" itself?
Sorry if this is just a repeat, I'd just like a definite "yes" that if I get the upgrade kit, I'll have IDENTICAL A40s?

It's all in the earpads and mic. Getting with upgrade kid when it releases will essentially get you the 2011 edition.

Better sealing leads to better bass. That's how it works with the A30s too, except the A30s have a closed back as well so its even more pronounced.

It's not shoe laces it a headset. And if the upgrade is significant in sound and the mic is alot better. I would be upset. Otherwise the extra cost for the upgrade wouldn't be worth it. If there sound is alot better I will buy the upgrade. My A40 a 2mo old so I'm not upset. Its a New year. But if I bought the day before I knew a better version came out yes personally I would be upset. Especially if the upgrade is over $50?? Thats the cost of replacement now. JMO

MLG Pros have been using an upgrade leather like pad for awhile now, and if you follow suit with MLG players, you may have seen them talk about it from time to time (or how us on the forums even noticed them). As far as the mics, those weren't really talked about much.

Similar to Apple, the A40s went mysteriously out of stock. And considering how long it's been with the A40s original design, perhaps it was all timing for a slight change to it (mainly for our MLG tournament players).

Just kinda funny to note though. Apple typically has a 1 1/2 year refresh on their MacBook line (updates should be happening fairly soon now), and a 1 year refresh on their iPhone and iPod line.

Look for the signs. =)

There isn't really a 2010 edition A40. There is a 2010 edition wired MixAmp that is slightly different from pre-November 2009 wired MixAmps.

The A40 connects to the MixAmp via 4-pole 3.5mm cable. Included with the MixAmp is a y-adapter which allows regular PC headsets to connect.

The only difference between the 2011 A40 and the earlier model is the earpads and mic.

I replied to a similar question so I'll copy my response to here:

The pads have some thin elastic material that fits into a groove around the ear cup. You can remove them by pulling at a corner and working your way around. It's kind of annoying to put back on though so I wouldn't take it off just for kicks, but you'd do pretty much the same but in reverse to put them back on.

There actually isn't any more old stock remaining. Apparently the 2011 edition was only meant to release in ~Spring but ASTRO sold out of the 2010s earlier than expected.
