Hey guys. I'm looking in to a new tv. I was wondering if i should get a smaller computer type monitor and play on that, or if i should get a larger wall type tv. I am also wondering which is a better value for performance-cost. One reason i am thinking monitor is to be able to plug in my lap top to it as well, but it is smaller.

get ya a 23inch full hd monitor for gaming to me anything bigger is a waste and with a monitor it can pull double duty or even triple duty with a hdmi input, vga and dvi input ie like me. Got my gaming monitor pulling a 2nd screen for my imac and hdmi with my xbox 360 and my laptop is pulling the vga input so its super conveint to have all three on the same monitor

Go with my monitor. I'll post a link in a but. But it's one of the mlg forums beat choices. It's a 21.5 inch full 1080i. Hd,dvi, vga inputs. Has speakers built into the top for if you aren't using headphones 2ms response time for 170$ I believe. Its at tigerdirect.com but I picked one up at my local frys

sorry, i'm not really great with abbreviations... could you plug the monitor into your cable/dish and use it as a tv?

Most set top boxes have a VGA output, so probably yes.

Funny I was actually searching around for a monitor on TD lol. Now I'm curious about yours, Socks.
One thing I gotta throw in, might help the OP out too, LED or LCD? Or LCD with LED backlighting! Lol. I've read LEDs provide more-true color and are better for gaming. I've also found there are a lot less of them at a decent price and most don't have HDMI :( which is what my xbox is setup with.

An LED TV is an LCD with LED lighting instead of CFL. You can read more about it here (http://www.lcdtvbuyingguide.com/hdtv/led-vs-lcd.html).

That helped out a lot actually lol.
Well I've decided I like reviews from LED LCDs a lot better. If anyone with experience between the two would care to correct me on my assumption that LEDs are better than feel free. I've been looking at quite a few with 2ms and now the only thing that's standing out to me is the dynamic contrast ratio. Found a really nice Samsung (Samsung BX2231 21.5" LED LCD Monitor - 1080p, 1920x1080, 16:9, 1000:1 Native, 2ms, VGA, DVI, HDMI) for 179.99 but then I find an ASUS ( Asus ML238H 23" Widescreen LED Monitor - 1080p, 1920x1080, 16:9, 10000000:1 Dynamic, 2ms, VGA, DVI, HDMI) for the same price but the contrast is waaaaay better. So is the price the same because I'm paying for a Samsung or is for some unknown reason the Samsung that much better? Also, both have HDMI which is a must for me.

I have three LG LED HDTV's. Two are the Infinia models and one is the latest 3D model and the picture is on par with plasma TV's. If you're in the market for a smaller TV/Monitor I would definitely recommend LED. You won't be disappointed.

I definitely like Viewsonic's monitors and recommend them. I'd use one for my gaming but my dorm room is so freaking small that I can't fit a second screen anywhere :/
@CH3RRI P0PPINZ: You're comparing the native colors vs the dynamic colors, which is two different tests. More reading info (http://www.lcdtvbuyingguide.com/hdtv/dynamic-contrast.html) :). IMO those ratios are mostly BS marketing gimmicks and you need to look at the screen yourself to really judge the color.
