OK - On the PS3 Under optical settings you only get DD and DTS plus 2ch PCM. With the HDMI you get DD,DTS,PCM 2ch to 7ch. How will i get 7.1 through the optical jack to the Mix Amp. I have a high end reciever that uses HDMI and all the Hz for PCM up to 7.1 . Now should i direct connect from the sony to the mix amp or Hdmi the sony to the reciever and then optical the reciever to the mix amp. for 7.1. or does the DD setting under optical on the sony handle 7.1 but does not tell you?

Says 7.1 in the manual if you had bothered to look before pointing the finger.

@Kotton - You can connect directly to mixamp from PS3 but personally I'm not sure whether you'd ever be able to notice any difference or whether there are many games/movies which support it yet.

I was talking to someone about the 7.1 and the difference between the a40 BXR(5.1) and the x41 Turtle Beach Headset(7.1). The person said that only about 1 game does support 7.1, but I can't really remember what game it was. So you shouldn't worry about it because its not much different anyways.(especially with a headset)

You need to type properly, it is hard to read you know.

The Xbox 360 does not support 7.1 Surround Sound and never will. It is limited at 5.1 Surround Sound and will do until the next generation Xbox.

When they made Prototype they included the 7.1 Surround Sound for the PC users. When they ported it for the Xbox 360 and PS3 this feature was left. Meaning that the PS3 which can output at 7.1 Surround Sound can take advantage while the Xbox 360 can not.

Until then I recommend you only refer the Xbox 360 as 5.1 Surround Sound as this is all it can do. There is no point in telling people about Prototype as technically it is only 5.1 on the Xbox 360.

TheHyperVertigo, it may be hard to read, but he may choose to type like that and not choose to take the time to type punctuated sentences etc. It's understandable. Don't be rude, even if it's slight. Just saying. =]

Sorry to offend anyone. Was just trying to say to clean up the writing, that is all. For instance he used "no" instead on "know". Anyway will not happen again.

Also in my post incase this was offensive. I was just clearing up that the Xbox 360 should be refered to as 5.1 Surround Sound as it only outputs that. Also I cleared up where the 7.1 Surround Sound came from in Prototype. Sorry again.

Though he does have the right to speak/type like that, it doesn't help that the way he speaks/types doesn't make sense a lot of times. If Preflect wanted to get his point across and understood, it's always best to use correct grammar and punctuation. Otherwise he comes off as a 12 year old. (Sorry if you really are that young, I have no idea)

Hi Kotton,

TOSlink Optical cables can't support 7.1 and can only handle 5.1 signals. HDMI supports 7.1 but our MixAmp doesn't take HDMI. Even if you use HDMI from your PS3 to your TV and then use the optical from your TV to the MixAmp, it won't work.

The best setup with our MixAmp would be the 5.1 output with an optical cable running directly to our MixAmp.

Hope this clears up any confusion!

"Unlike many other generic “5.1” audio products on the market today, the A40 MixAmp™ is a genuine Dolby® product - containing Dolby® Pro Logic II, Dolby® Digital 7.1, and Dolby® Headphone surround technologies."

This quote was obtained through the online mixamp manual. So, does this mean that you can hook up a 7.1 arrangement of speakers to the mixamp?

Hi FattyMcFatFatFatty,

A 7.1 system of speakers can't be plugged into the MixAmp as the only output the MixAmp has is the 4-pole 3.5mm port.

Hope this answers your question!

Just has to do with technology naming, pretty sure it takes 5.1 as normal.
