I have ordered the blue bxrs for chirstmas:) I was wondering a couple of things:
Is the battery pack a good purchase? Can the mixamp operate on aa bateries for a long time?
To get 5.1, do i need the optical cable?
Thanks, i look foward to joining the astro comunity!:D

Depending on hwo you are going to have your seltup i.e if oyu are going to be far away from a place to power your mixamp with the usb cable the battery pack is a good idea, normally people are situated close to their console or PC and don't need the battery pack. I find using the Usb cable to power the mixamp is fine, I never have to worry about charging anything but it's always good to have the option to not rely on the cable, I suggest getting a long optical cable if you are going to use the battery pack and am sitting far from your console or PC when gaming.
you can get about 12 hours out of the battery pack. As with any rechargeable battery it will degrade over time.
Yes you will need the optical cable for 5.1 surround sound I suggest you purchase one if you want that feature, I have it and it's very much so worth it.
Any other questions feel free to ask and welcome to the Astro forums.

Hay and grats on your new BXR's. I am also getting mine for Christmas maybe so let me answer some of your questions. I do not totally know if you need the optical cable to get 5.1 dolby, but I am pretty sure it lets you get the best quality. You can get better deals than the one on this website, but its your personal preference. I believe also that it is a good idea to get a recharable battery pack, but yet again I am not sure(If it helps I am getting one and its only $20.00 so its worth a try). I do not exactly know about the AA Batteries so maybe someone else can help you. Have fun with your new BXR's until then.. Later :D

To get the best sound and Dolby Headphone Surround, you need an TOSlink optical cable. AA batteries work as well but naturally are disposable so it's entirely up to you.
Hope this helps!
