View Full Version : Community Game Nights!?

I have no idea if any community game nights have been done yet, but I think we should get started.. most likely with one of the head ASTRO peepz but I mean even just a well organized community member could do it!
It could be for Xbox 360, PS3, and / or PC. Just have a crowd of people and then start separating them into groups... and then smaller groups for the games on the platforms... I mean of course there are many ways to do this.. but I think it'd be lots of fun if we get it sorted out!
Any thoughts?

I love this idea.
Would like to see some development and if I can help in any way let me know.
International times are going to have to be thought of while planning.

Yes of course, that's why we'd have to have a specific date(s) for these game nights, like if it were every Saturday or something.. it could be 7 PM(Just giving an example) 7PM PST, and so on and so forth. A time that would work for a majority of people. We could also get a poll going for times. I would really like to do this. To get real technical if we had enough people into it.. we could have divisions(like NA((North American)) people and then EU(((European))) people, to make times a little more reasonable.) Though of course, some times just won't work for people. So maybe 2 game nights a week, and have 2 polls for those two days, we'd have an earlier time and a later time for each night, whatever works for people. Then some people may even be able to get into both if they have the time!
Then for games, example: Halo 3. Maximum players in a game, 16. Preferred game? I'd assume mostly MLG / Infection. But I'd say if there were 16+ people, 8 people per game, unless if a massive infection game or something.. then we could combine our parties. Reason for 8 people per game would be for mainly the MLG settings. 4v4. But lets say there were more then 16.. like 20 or 18... For 20 we could perhaps fit in 2 more people for each game, 5v5 instead of 4v4.. 18 people.. we'd have to even out the teams with skill.. or something.. or attempt to get a few others in the game to even it out with team members. Because with 18, 8 people per game makes 16.. + 2 = 1 person added to each game which is 9 people per game.. 5 v 4.. 4 v 5, however you want to say it.. Anyways, I'm sure we can work out ways.. I just really want to get something like this on the roll!
Give some ideas or opinions or just say if you like this or not! :)

I'd be more inclined to a more of a laid back less competative style of games, if people want to get competative there's game battles or the hardcore playlists, fair enough if there are enough people wanting to have a serious game, they can, but generally in things like halo 3 things like BTB games would be nice, people could submit maps and gametypes they've made or that they've played and think will be good for the game night.
Kind of like if you where to have a bunch of mates over for a LAN party, that type of atmosphere, promotes strong friendly community.

Of course, I was kind of thinking that as well.. but was assuming that most of the community here was MLG oriented.. I guess I shouldn't assume that anymore :P.. Anywho... I'd love to get some 16 player games going.. like Valhalla.. and I actually like that idea, if that was an idea:p Like, people can submit some game modes and maps.. for suggestions of course and then we can try em out and if it seems good we keep it or something like that.. haven't really tryed anything on Citadel and Longshore.. but yeah, we could totally have some crazy BTB games going on. 8v8 is fun if the right game mode is there.. I really enjoy having large vehicles (wraiths etc.) for big team games like Valhalla etc. What do you think would be good Nevermind?
Edit: For Halo 3 of course.
I also have a fairly decent Infection mode I made for Sandtrap.. and as well as Avalanche, they're pretty fun for most people, we could definitely try it out if everyone is game!
And of course other games are welcome as well, if people have suggestions we can definitely see if it could work.

Though I didn't say all MLG :P I did say I assumed that the preferred game mode would be MLG / Infection, but of course other things are for selection as well.. Bumper Car kind of game modes are pretty fun.. I also tryed this Jenga game which is pretty fun.

I was just thinking we've gotta think of People in the community that use different platforms like PC and PS3 gamers.
Like most H3 gamers on here I've got the v7 MLG maps and gametypes, I've got stupid stuff I use to muck around with my mates but other than that I could research some maps and gametypes, I can't assume everyone has the mythic disc so, we might be limited on maps.
There's so much that comes to mind, definitely bigger maps for 8v8 like longshore, sandtrap, sandbox varients ( I remember a few good ones), Valhalla, avalanche, standoff ect.
smaller maps for 4v4, I'd like to integrate heretic and assembly in there. I'm eager to see more mythic but as I said I can't assume everyone has the mythic disc.
as for gametypes, I could go on, then there's variants for maps and it keeps going, that's why I thought it's better if we get people to submit combo maps and gamytypes. That way it's not just what one person likes and it takes the load off the people organizing it.

yeh I haven't tried the v7 maps and gametypes yet, MM has become a bit of a joke with what people have turned it into.
I've got a small selection of muck around maps like jenga and trash compactor, my mates got a decent collection, I'll try to get a few off him.

Yeah, sounds good. I also have a PS3 and a crappy laptop... and I also work at a rental store so I'll be able to rent games for PS3 if we do stuff for that console.

Best way to set this up;
Astro Chooses one night, that they are going to get on say, the Xbox360, and they post saying, SATURDAY DECEMBER 12th COME PLAY WITH The ASTRO TEAM, Post your Gamertag here.
Valve has done this, very successful
ESEA has done this, Very successful
I ran a LAN Party here in buffalo a couple weeks ago for the UB Student Chapter of IEEE (Electrical Engineering Club). And lemme tell you, organizing a social gaming event is no easy task!! But i am all for playing with ASTRO, especial stan, gotta see what kind-of skills hes packing!

Hey Dave,
You should get in touch with the RIT EGS (Rochester Institute of Technology's Electronic Gaming Society), they run some great and chill LANs in Rochester. As for COD4, MW2, TF2... I do ok (http://www.omfgwtfbbqlol.com/images/codownage.jpg). :D
It sounds like you lot really want to do this so we'll talk about it with the staff and see what we can setup for you guys. How's that sound?

Should I start a poll and see how many people are up for Community Game Night(s)?
