Is this just a myth or is this a very real statement? I would like to know because I don’t want to have to buy the A40's and then the next month have them become obsolete. I have heard that a new system will be coming out around Holiday season. Can people add on to this post with conformations, ideas that should be in a new product, and what they have heard about an A50 or A40 v2 coming out.

I asked this question earlier and the only answer that I got was that when they have news to reveal, we'll know ...
I'd love to know this as well ...

I was concerned on this too. I'd rather avoid paying $249, then the new one gets announced including Price drop on this, and then new one shoots lazers, massages, and makes hot fluffy pancakes. Now that would be a headset I want.

The lasers and pancakes would be nice, but honestly as the consumer what do we want to see in a new headset other then wireless becuase the surround sound wireless technology still really isnt there, so what upgrdes would we want to see

Newer Dolby Decoding and even more high end speakers in the headset would be great ...

I doubt there will be a wireless one because the mixamp is doing well in the market right now and that is completely based off wiring. I don't really see a new headset coming because the current one is stereo and the mixamp is there for a reason, Dolby Headphone. If they were to release a literally 5.1 or 7.1 headset then the mixamp would only be for the PC crowd really.

yeah i doubt there will be a wireless one too but i think we could see an update. Fist of all the could add dolby digital plus, Dolby Pro Logic IIz, Dolby Pro Logic IIx or Dolby Pro Logic II and also dolby headphone, i also wouldn't mind if the added an analog input for a PC analog 5.1 sound card.
Also I wouldnt mind some better signal response....15 - 30,000 Hz and make the bass a little meatier or have some kind of bass mixer becuse when whatching a movie with the a40s it sounds whimpy i mean the highs and mids are great but bass is poop.
Any one want to see any external upgrades? or changes
Also i just realized that frequency range of the mixamp is smaller then range of the headset in the lows...why would they do that?

An adjustable mic volume is one that a few reviewers mentioned they would have liked to see in the A40, so I wouldn't be surprised to see it in the A50 or whatever comes next.

Yeap ... that would be nice for use with the xbox 360 ... as well as a Mic Cover that would prevent wind noise from coming in on the mic ... I use my overhead fan when playing and the air creates feedback in through my mic if the fan is set too high ...

My thoughts are still just an external mic that could be used with people that may use PC headphones or such.

I'm not too concerned about an A50. The A40 is at the TOP right now, so there's really no need yet. They may not even be working on another audo device right now. :o

What everyone has to realize is that Astro isn't just a pro gaming equipment company. If you visit their primary site: Astrostudios.com
...you will get an idea of some of the other things they work on besides headsets. I am more than sure they will come out with a new headset sometime in the near future but as far as soon, I don't feel it necessary. I mean, the only thing I can think of that the A40s don't have is wireless capability. And if they did make a new headset I am sure they could add some new features that are minor but still useful, but the A40 is a solid system. I am satisfied with what he have for now, I just wish they had a wider selection of Speaker tags that were pre-made... the costumes are cool but they are not in 100% quality...

I think that they should listen to what we say let us know if they plan a new headset and just do it, all this controversey is annoying me, agree? So on the front of things you would like to see in a new headset no matter what time it will come out just what improvments or changes do you want to see:cool:

LOL its true they have caught all my slips in language use all over the forum, but its good that they do that plus they can get some vital ideas for a new product from these forums, they made a good choice to make this. So if you have vital ideas state them...
If anyone wants an HD reveiw of the A40s done by a kid I know who is the honestly a super tech savey person PART 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHASVY06qMY) and PART 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6QoLkLMgJw&feature=related) and if you want to subscribe to my youtube account it is ianberke (http://www.youtube.com/user/ianberke) which is my youtube account

The overhead fan does create quite a feedback. Its not like you can just turn it off either, then your room becomes ridiculously hot.

I would like to see noise isolating padding on the headphones. The A40s may do a good job with this already but ive heard that you can hear things outside your headset when using them and others can hear the sound coming from your headset. Any other small improvement like the ones posted here would be an awesome update that would most likely get me to make a purchase. Also, i don't mind the wired connection and would rather have a few wires that worked perfectly than wireless that had a few problems.

Its because this an open headset, it pretty much makes it sound better. If it were closed headphones then you probably wouldn't hear much outside of it nor would others hear it, but closed headphones tend to have the sound reflect around inside of the phones and generally doesn't sound as good as open.

I think u said "the only good sounding closed headphones cost a ton. Open air is the way to go. Astro's sound best without the speaker tags on if you are in a silent environment." right?
A good analogy is a concert in a park versus inside a club. Open headphones tend to have a larger sound stage, while closed tend to have deeper bass because there is the housing for the soundwaves to bounce off of. I have many types of headphones and I will use them for the specific uses... like open for games, movies, and closed to listen to electronic music...

with the overhead fan issue i used an old pc mic cover and put it on my boom mic and it seems to work well just an idea. I dont think a wireless would be coming out just yet since the headsets even here in canada sell well on ebay and other various sites (i got mine direct from astro themselves) but a wireless headset from astro would guarantee one purchase from this gamer indeed

Stan has aready stated, that the A40s arent going anywhere anytime soon. Dont Worry, No Need to replace an almost perfect system! And with the New Mix-amp, they are even more perfect.

Ok. I've recently started looking for headsets to better my gaming experience (I want to feel the power)!!!
With that said, when i get a mental picture of me with a headset on acting like a child all i can imagine is my brain getting rattled!!!!!!! While i have paid close attention to all the details of all the headsets, the only thing leaning me onto something else is the BASS!!! I know the A40's are legit. Especially for mlg. Bass could potentially block out other sounds u need to hear. Shoot, i'm not mlg and that's why i'm looking for headsets, but i reallly really really want the bass, and goooooood bass at that. I don't really mind if i can't go wireless but heck if it's available i'm gonna get it.
It's very unfortunate that i have to wait but i'm really not even interested in any pair of gaming headphones that are avaialbe due to all of there downfalls. If i'm gonna spend money i don't have, especially that much, i'm gonna wait till i can get exactly what i want. Its kinda scary thinking about how long i have to wait. I'll prob give in soon enough and just get whatever pair has the best sound and bass and reviews on being comfortable.
i was going to finish it there but i started thinking, why wouldnt they just make a pair with ALL the details everyone's looking for. I'm sure it's marketing but seriously, why not. No one will ever not get astros. They'll always be known as the best. They already have made a **** ton of money and the only reason someone might not buy them isn't the price but because of the few things they are missing. They could almost completely take over the industry. it's just very saddening.:(

I don't have a problem with Bass but i'm no audiophile and there is definitely better headphones if your looking for movies/music but for gaming these are possibly the best combo you can get out of the box. Ultimately you could just consider the mixamp while looking for a better headset to suit your needs (since it's compatible with any sound/mic plug combo), just hope you don't turn around later down the road and regret for not getting the set.

Discovered these support forums when looking to see if there were any updates regaridng Astro Gaming's work on a successor to the A40.
I believe it was an Astro article itself that stated that they were in the works on a wireless headset while aimiing to make it MLG legal. It will be nice to see an upgrade, but there are a few concerns that kind of surround the world of wirelss connectivity that hopefully they'd be able to overcome.
-Delay. This is the biggest concern I have with the talks of the wireless a40. I've used many different wireless controllers with a lot of different technologies. RF/IR/bluetooth/etc. have noticeable delay in products. I remember shelling out 100 dollars on an xbox bluetooth controller back in the day thinking it would be amazing, only to find out it was virtually unplayable with the delay it had. I'm sure delay is being considered, but it's just a worry. I mean, there have been controllers I've used that have no noticeable delay, like the current wii/360/ps3 controller, and the gamecube wavebird controller, so perhaps a wireless technology that those controllers employ might be a wise decision.
Interference- This is the big worry for MLG legality. If you have thousands of kids in a room with wireless headsets blaring, you are sure to get interference. This has been a problem in telecommunications for years. Solutions employed for networks like colleges, wireless communication was delivered via higher frequencies(notice how lately wireless telephones have been going to 2.4ghz to 5.4ghz to dect6.0? the higher the frequency, the smaller the range). So by having the higher frequencies and smaller ranges, they were able to reduce crosstalk. Will this be a road Astro goes down? I'd hope not since I wouldn't want to be severely tethered to my system, even if it is wirelessly tethered.
Technology- This isn't actually concern, but it is a hope. The only technology I have experienced being successful for high fidelity sound is Kleer Audio technology. It is fairly recent, but the quality is top notch, and is power efficient. It's biggest drawback is it is an expensive technology. I for one would be willing to pay more for that kind of connection quality, though I would like to see a change in drivers for the headset itself, I definitely hope they improve in that aspect. But looking at current headphones employing Kleer technology, there are some hopes in what Astro might be able to achieve with the next headset.
-Looking at Sennheiser MX W1's, it is a simple hook up of the receiver plugging into the headphone jack of your source of choice, and it sends the signal to the transmitter of the earbuds. This would be able to acheive a bit of money savings for those who already own a mixamp. Think about it. Instead of the only option of buying the entire combo pack of mixamp + wireless headset, you could simply buy the wireless headset+receiver and use it with your pre-existing mixamp.
This can actually be looked into further.
Let's say in my scenario, that this headset comes out and we now have the regular a40, and now have the what i will call a50. It could be possible to phase out the old a40 headset, but still give people options when deciding what they want to buy. Sleek Audio currently has an Sa1 earbud set that sells for 80 dollars. This set, is compatible with Kleer Technology. What you would simply have to do, is purchase the receiver/transmitter, and simply unplug the earbuds from the cords and plug them into the receiever, and you'd be all set. So picture you have 2 models, Astro A50's. You have the lower end model that is wired , but it would have a detachable cable. You'd then have the wireless version of the a50, with no cables at all. But then you'd have the upgrade kit sold for XX dollars. You'd simply unplug the cables from the lower end A50, and stick in the receiver like Sleek Audio does, and you'd be good to go. There are just a lot of roads that Astro can travel down. And like I said earlier, the core mixamp can stay the same, because all it does is use effects on normal stereo headphones anyways, so nothing really needs to be changed about it. The only problems you face with my scenario, is A. how big are the headphones going to end up being (i'd venture guessing they'd look like Sennheiser Hd600s in terms of size, big, but not THAT big). And then price. Kleer is expensive. But oh so worth it.
One of the things I hope astro would be able to do with this headset, would be to have wireless voice as well. Time and time again I've seen advertised wireless controllers and headsets, but what is the point of having a wireless controller if you still have to plug in your headset through a cord? It gets in the way. There should just be a puck with a receiver/transmitter in there, it doesn't really matter what technology it employs since it's merely voice. But the point is to not have cords where the user is. I don't care how many plugs the mixamp has to have, but none on the controller/headset please.
With all of these factors, you would have an extremely successful headset, truly deserving of being named the best choice for gaming. And realistically speaking, I would think this headset would be priced at around ~300-375 for the headset. But it would be worth it for the best wireless technology, the least amount of annoyances, and *crosses fingers* upgraded drivers.
