Hi all, I am new to these forums. I've been doing some research for surround sound headset and it basically came down to Tritton, Turtle Beach and Astro. I bought the Turtle Beach X41 last week and it was very disappointing. There seem to be a design flaw that produces a constant hissing noise in the headset, many others have also had the same problem but TB doesn't seem to be willing to do anything about it. $200 bought me nothing but frustration so I returned them.

That leaves me Astro and Tritton, and I decided on the Astro. Because it cost $250, I have to be absolutely certain there are no design faults or other defects with the Astro A4. So I need to know if the A4 have any kind of unwanted noise including when using the chat cables. And I would like to know if the mix amp will come with all the optional cables like the one that lets you hook up other headsets and the standard 3.5mm cable to connect my mp3 player.

I've learnt my lesson with the Turtle Beach X41 and decided to really find out everything about the product before buying. Thanks!

The Astro A40 system is one of the best on the market if not THE best on the market, any problems you have will be taken care of without fail by the support team who are quick and helpful. You get a assortment of cables with the A40 system and yes it includes a 3.5mm to 3.5mm to hook up and mix in your MP3, for a full list of parts you get in the system go to the bottom of this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_zKphLx5xo&feature=sub) page and click on Mixamp, the first link under "Download the manuals"

any other questions don't hesitate to ask.

The Trittons are very good indeeed although they have way too many faults with them from the Power Supplies overloading and stop working to the AMP always picking up Dolby Digital 5.1 as Dolby Stereo which requires you to restart the console. I could go more into detail but I have just got up and not up for writing too much.

The Turtle Beaches are great... If you have no other wireless equipement around. The X4 used Infrared te*****gy which meant if any other infrared thing or too much light was in the room the headphones became useless. They redesigned this in the X41 although you still get interference from wireless technology such as Wireless Routers and Wireless Telephones.

I only used the Astro's for around a couple of hours before ordering mine. Everything worked great. The only thing that got me was a place to plug the USB in but again astro came to the rescue and I ordered a battery pack. Sound is great and I didn't notice any hissing sound from the headsets maybe when you started the console up but this might be the console changing from Dolby Stereo to Digital Digital 5.1

That's the stupid thing about the Turtle Beach headsets. It's like they are releasing untested and unfinished products. They claim that wireless technology will prevent interference, but it obviously does not do that. Then when people complained to them they keep trying to blame other wireless sources. What's the point then? Who doesn't have some sort of wireless device at home now? That is why I will never get Turtle Beach products again.

Anyway looks like Astro is the choice for me then. Thanks for the replies!

No problem, and a thing I forgot to mention is that the Astro A40 Audio Bundle (MixAMP and Headphones) come with all the cables you need except the Optical TOSLink Cable. You will need to either purchase one yourself or get a Astro branded version from the website with your order.

Got one more question. I read in another thread that there's a newer mixamp that can act as a usb sound card for direct connection to the PC. If I order now will I get the newer mixamp? I don't live in the US and I've read that the newer amps are supposed to be only available outside the US next year.

Hi TheBigPumpkin,

You got it right. The US store has the USB MixAmp and the UK store currently stocks the Original MixAmp.

I think that it is available there... I can't find anything that proves this wrong... If I am, post link...
