Need some technical help

Yeah i just got some astro a40s few days ago and got around to setting them up today but i have a major problem. For whatever reason i cannot hear people talking on the headphones, yet they can hear me.

I have the 2.5mm cables connected to the controller to the mixamp and the mixamp's knob is set right in the middle between game and voice. The only way i can hear people is if i set the voice output to play through speakers but if i do that i can just barely hear people and it's very frustrating when you need to put the volume high in order to hear people (call of duty, halo and gears). Iwould really appreciated if someone could suggest something i can do to fix the problem.

wow i just fixed it somehow. I was an idiot because i ordered the optical cable but i didn't know that on eof the cables i had was the optical cable. I had it all set up with the RCA cables and voice did not work. I found the optical cables and as soon as i tried those, it started working, god knows why but i'm grateful anyways.
