Which optical port to use?

I just read a thread about how to use an HDMI and the optical port on the component cables at the same time.

When using my HDMI cable, I use the optical audio out port on my TV to get sound to my mixamp.

So my question is, which setup would provide the best sound quality: The optical from the component cables or from my TV?

Hi Checkawrz,

You can use you TV for optical out and the signal should be exactly the same coming out of your Xbox 360. There may be a small, hardly noticeable delay as the signal is being pushed through another device.

Generally, it's always better to have any signal go directly from the output to the input. like the Xbox 360 to our MixAmp in this case. There is an HDMI AV cable for the Xbox 360 that is available at Amazon:

Yeah, I was thinking that if the signal had a more direct route, there'd be less lag/better sound quality.

I can definitely tell the difference of video when it comes to the component and HDMI cables on my TV.

So if there's not gonna be much difference getting the sound through my TV then I'll just keep doing it.

I use a hdmi to my tv, then the opticle form my tv to my astro's.
