I was wondering if anyone was getting annoyed with the wires coming from the controller if you're a 360 player.

I found that the 2.5mm voice chat lead was a little oddly placed on the 360 controller using the A40 system.

Not being unfamiliar to electronics I decided to fix this problem and add a jack closer to the controller lead to put the 2.5mm lead out of the way. There are no real mod's to the workings of the controller, I soldered the three wires to the three points where the normal jack it soldered to the board, cut a few pieces out of the body of the controller to make a rout for the leads and there we have it.

these shots are with my broken 2.5mm lead, a new one is being shipped by the support team at Astro. hopefully it'll arrive soon and I can test if this works. The stock standard 360 mic still works on the default mic jack.

this all cost me a grand total of $1

if anyone would like some tips feel free to ask.

pic's :)

That's awesome, what did you use to make a whole so small?

Probably a drill or a dremel, with the casing off of course. Don't want to hurt the PCB.

You should make a business out of this. =P

I disassembled the entire controller, Measured and planned everything, cut out parts of the case to make room for the jack, modified the jack to fit inside the case better then plotted my hole and drilled it, soldered three wires from the jack to the mic points on the PC board then the tricky part of closing it all up again while having the wires run so they don't interfere with anything.....then do it again when you realize you didn't put the plastic button pads in.

Absolutely awesome! Ballsy too. Very nicely done Nevermind.

If you do any more mods, we'd love to see them here. Post away!

not really a mod but I've removed the motors as well.

I never use vibration and it's lightens the controller.

I don't really do things like painting as it always rubs off.

If I get any ideas I might do something else.

I normally buy a new wired controller and replace parts that are wearing out regularly.

Hrm, well if you're ever up for doing another one of these installs for a fellow forum mate, let me know. =)

The idea of putting the Headset plug at that top would be a great idea for a Astro Gaming Controller in addition to my suggestion in this thread:

GREAT IDEA!!!!!!

Well, bought the 2.5mm (or 3/32") jack yesterday from Radio Shack. The housing is a little bit though, so wondering how it'll fit in the wired controller with the PCB board. Haven't tackled buying a wired controller to open it up yet. I see the 2.5mm jack has 3 lead points (one for mic, one for the headset, and I'm guessing the ground input?). How'd you figure which was the mic and which was the headset when you wired it? I don't suppose there's some xbox 360 controller schematic out there... lol

A simpler idea with no soldering involved.

Doesn't have to be that brand, radioshack might have some for less.

That + some kind of adhesive or tape and viola you have it at the top ;).

It wont look as pretty but also doesn't require any tools or skill.
