I'm thinking of getting a optical switch when I order my mixamp so that I may use it with both xbox 360 and a PS3.

With the new mixamp, can you use the USB mic output at the same time so that you can hook up the mixamp to both 360 and the PS3?

no, the usb is for the PS3 only. you can only hook up one console with the mixamp

Yeah I understand that there is only one TOSLINK input. I was going to use a optical switch for the toslinkwith a splitter for the mic.

I would not need the splitter if the USB output for the mic is active at the same time as the standard mic out.

Would this not work? This would cut down on the mess considerably on my desk ( I'm gaming on a monitor that has PC/360/PS3 all hooked to it.)

By having optical from both the ps3 and 360 running into a splitter adapter which connects to the mixamp you should be able to achieve both listening/chatting on both consoles (naturally only one at a time) keep in mind that with the 360 you still need the extra wire to connect to the mixamp into your handset and that it's possibly more better to include the rechargeable batteries so that it can be powered by them instead of the USB which is attached to the ps3 since it doesn't charge while turned off.

Hi Guys

Our experience with optical splitters has been less than positive with them generally not working or degrading the signal. An optical switch may be a better solution for you.

Lke ittekimasu pointed out, you'll need to have your MixAmp plugged into the PS3 for USB so the rechargeable battery pack (http://www.astrogaming.com/products/detail/13/USB-Rechargeable-Battery-Pack/) may be best here assuming your PS3 usage is fairly consistent.

Hope this helps!
