View Full Version : USB wall adapter for MixAmp?

Maybe a crazy idea, and I don't know how many people would even want it if it wasn't included with the A40 + MixAmp set, but I can't be the only one that has static at high volumes regardless of whether or not I plug the USB cable into a PC, 360 or the 360's HD-DVD drive. (I know not to plug it into the wall through USB wall adapters, but perhaps an Astro USB wall adapter/plug designed specifically for the MixAmp would work?)
The MixAmp sounds fantastic off batteries, and I wish there was a plug-in solution that sounded as great. Either an official Astro USB wall plug that would guarantee the right power levels for awesome sound without static, or some kind of AC adapter for a future version of the MixAmp, it'd be nice to not have to choose between batteries and static.
Just an idea, and possibly one you've heard before..but throwing it out there in case it helps. ;)

ok the thing is with a wall adapter is not the right power getting the right power from a wall adapter is inpossable because there is too many amperages when i first i used it this way and found out that it was damageing my mix amp so thats a no go and for the xbox i have mine connected through a line conditioner this is prob why i dont get as much buzzing that some people are complaning about so if i were you i would invest in one there about $50 for a monster cables one that i have i dont enjoy buying from them but in this case its the best you can get
Good Luck,
Chris

Hey,
As ghueni whale mentioned, a wall adapter will not work as it's not giving off clean power which causes the buzzing effect which could damage the MixAmp in the long run.
If you are experiencing problems when using USB then I would contact ASTRO Gaming Support (www.astrogaming.com/support), who can troubleshoot your MixAmp and hopefully find a solution to it.

Not bored, I just help fellow members on the forums while I am doing some work. But I'm not right really I just suggested ASTRO Gaming Support thats all, you came up with the post first.

nothing wrong with 2 posts. just gives more information to the original poster.
its when someone says contact support and then theres 5 other people after them that say contact support thats when it becomes lame. but mitch is quite helpful

You would have to regulate the amperage's somehow.

all i can is sometimes i wish i had a astro made wall plus but then i realize it runs on battery's better then it would run off a wall plug and much easier. my next order is for a battery pack or two. then i will just charge it from my ps3 or something when needed.

I'm not sure if it would solve your problem, but what about using a USB wall-plug into a cheap surge protector?

Actually, you might be onto something.
I would recommend getting a high end Surge Protector to see if it will eliminate any unclean power going to your devices that might get rid of the problem.
As for the USB Wall Plug, it won't work as you need regulate the amperage's as Acid mentioned plus having direct power to your MixAmp might damage it in the long run.

Actually a MixAmp that plugs into the wall is exactly what the MixAmp 5.8 is all about. Peteer, your request has been answered. :D
As for the 2010 MixAmp. It won't happen because it doesn't have a power managing IC-chip installed that would allow for the FET (mosfet) to regulate the power distribution. Cell phones have this but the 2010 MixAmp doesn't.
EDIT: Sorry for the whole techno mumbo jumbo. I dabble a little in the IC chip technology as it kind of bleeds a little over into what I do.

It's okay. It happens to us all.
Maybe next year the USB MixAmp will get an update to support AC Adapters and USB Power, it could be done. Correct?

Sure, I don't see why they couldn't place an IC chip that regulates power distribution correctly for the 2010 MixAmps. Maybe name it MixAmp 2010 (rev 2.0) or something. I mean if those chips are small enough to fit inside an iPhone just think how much room is available inside a MixAmp.
