Well, seeing as there's not a lot of people on this forum yet, i'll try to get it started. I want to see or read about peoples setups, whether its computer of console.

I have my laptop on the left, monitor for my laptop in the middle, and my tv for my xbox on the right. My tv is the MLG tv that they use but I don't have a40's. :(

I don't have the money right now....

Not very recent photos. I have a Viewsonic monitor now and I moved into my dorm a month ago. I'll post newer pics up soon.

I don't have any pics ... Need to take some ... but I play primarily FPS games (COD4, COD:WaW) on my XBOX 360 ...

My setup consists of the Klipsch Reference 7 Series Surround System (RC-7, RF-7, RS-7 ... and 2 15" Powered Subs - Klipsch RSW-15 & Velodyne DLS-5000R) ... I power everything with a Harman Kardon AVR-7300 Receiver ...

Even though I own a Plasma and an LCD TV, I use an older 57" CRT Toshiba HDTV that uses Rear Projection for gaming ... The reason I use this is because the picture quality is still great and I get ZERO input lag while playing ... The only lag that I experience is via XBOX Live ...

At night, I use everything listed above, minus the Speaker Setup, I just run an optical cable from the optical out on my Harman Kardon to the Astro A40s instead ...

Its not wireless, It is sort of a Frankenstein of several security camera systems. as you can see here:

To get the thread back on track (although I do have a grim fascination for enormous/out-of-focus/grainy security camera photos), here are a couple of shots of my new gaming setup in my loft.

My little but high-octane office! Had a 17-35mm f2.8 Nikon lens on loan, so I snapped a couple of pictures before I had to return it.

The desk is an 80/20 project that I recently completed this spring. This is a big desk made from aluminum extrusions and furniture grade maple plywood. Each pedestal of the desk is a full 19" rackmount for Middle Atlantic shelves, drawers and accessories, in addition to an AC power center and rackmount server case. The left pedestal houses an NHT 12-inch powered sub (the controller is in the top right drawer, and there are two Acurus home theater amplifiers for the surround system. One of the design constraints of the desk was that it had to accommodate three 24" monitors and the NHT 1.5's that flanked them. This amount of real estate made for a very large keyboard tray with tons of mouse pad room, which was a huge upgrade from my old setup. All in all I think that it turned out pretty well -- mid-project I thought that it was going to be really heinous looking (esp because I was going to use a very dark grey/black flecked Corian for the desk surfaces, like a kitchen countertop), but since I decided to use the lighter wood, it turned out much better looking than I anticipated.

I'm currently in the process of putting together a new desktop PC rig to run this. I'm trying to figure out if I want to try to squeeze a water cooling kit into the horizontal 4U server rack, or just grab one of the HP Blackbird cases. One of the new ATi cards that will run a triple head setup like this is a MUST however!!!

Looks like good ol' distorted Matrox units. Thankfully the new ATi cards (and presumably, future NVidia units), will display at your monitor's native resolution. 5760X1200 in my case. :D

I'd overlap the edges of those screens instead...it'll minimize those part of the monitors in the way.

SeanP
09-30-2009, 04:11 PM
Monitors are really thick, and that would lead to really odd shadows on the back screen and having things at different depths would mess with your viewing perception. When the monitors are actually in use its a lot harder to notice the edges being in the way.

My friends and I usually do a big sort of LAN thing with about 10 to 13 people every saturday and Im usually responsible for setting everything up. I'll have to take pictures soon and post them up here. Anyways I order the new BXR Blue Special Edition A40's to accompany me when I reck people on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. When I first made thise thread I didn't have the money for the A40's but due to a recent 18th birthday of mine, I was able to buy them. They should be here with in a few days. Anyways, great posts everyone! We are deffinitly making this forum a new place to visit and meet new people!

Here is Mine;

PC, XBOX 360, and PS3 all hooked through an HDMI Switch to the Main Monitor, (PC runs on the 2nd so i can do gamebattles and MLG while logged on to xbl! )

Now I am at college in an apartment, so its a bit messy, but it suits my needs;

my current setup, I have a Benq 21.5inch E2200 1080p HDMI monitor on the way with a 2ms GTG refresh rate.

so, the TV will be mounted to the wall with the monitor sitting where the tv is now.

the tv has a 8ms refresh rate which is kinda laggy.

Those Precision stick controls are called FPS Freaks (First Person Shooter) by a company known as Kontrol Freaks. They also have another one called Speed Freak used for racing. They are really nice, I have the Speed Freak and the FPS Freaks myself and they really improve gameplay. Plus the sticks are compatible with PS3 and XBOX 360 controllers.

The only problem with them is you may become dependent on them and you may not perform as well without them if you went over a friends house or maybe at an event. They are totally removable so you could always pop them on and off, but one thing I am not sure about is weather or not they are legal for MLG events. Thats one thing I will probably pop into the MLG forums and get back to you guys on.

Anyway, here are some more pics of them:

Someone on the forums @ kontroil freek says he knows for a fact that they're legal for MLG. But I guess the best would be to go to the source ;)

If that's true then I am excited to know that. Because like I said, I have certainly built a dependency around them. But I wills till follow through with talking to someone about it. Thanks for support though.

So right now i have my tv my computer and my wonderful xbox.
i want to get a tv jus for gaming size 19-23 inches. my current tv is a toshiba its a 24 or 25 and when i snag my dad's 22 viewsonic monitor i play a hell of a lot better. i see how alot of you guys have viewsonic i assume its the tv they use in MLG tournys which i think is "22 and 5ms response. please correct me if im wrong.
now for the questions:
right now i need a new headset which will be the A40s for sure(how do u get coupons for the order?)
i also need a tv or monitor just for gaming, i only play FPS such as CoD and Halo 3. i will be getting these 2 things for xmas, also what size? (i assume "22), what brand with little to no lag? and lcd, HD, or LED?
i hope you can answer my questions

Hey there! Im currently using the Acer H233H for my monitor. It barely has any lag and the picture is beautiful. Its your best bet if you don't want to spend lots of money for a Viewsonic. Has HDMI input, VGA, and DVI. Also some helpful information is that you can actually find it at Best Buy for $139.99 which is a huge deal! Retail price is $209.99. If you want to consider it, make your decision soon because the sales on monitors don't last very long lately at Best Buy. Hope this helped...

My current set up... It originally started as a temp set up until I got a larger top for my computer desk... but the more I play on this, I kind of like it... Its a real nice height for the Viewsonic. Also pictured are my A4o's, Elite, Gunnars, and a mini fridge which is super convenient ( can stick my speaker tags on it ) . I also like being able to get out beverages and popsicles in between games.

Look really nice Stormy ... Good job!

Check out the HardOcp review on the new ATi Eyefinity products here: (http://www.hardocp.com/article/2009/09/28/amds_ati_eyefinity_technology_review)

I plan on getting a second astro stand and modding my MDR's to use exclusively with the mixamp and online gaming. The zallman mic I been using doesn't work well enough imo. Fear my ghetto filter, it makes it so I don't have to kill myself every few months with literally layers of gray dirt and dust. Living in an apartment building, it is hard to take it outside and canned air it out. Last time I did that people gave me mean stares.

Quality is good, are you on Virgin Media internet? I see the modem :D.

Nice setup, I would move that router to somewhere higher and away from the electronics. Could cause interference and signal loss when under there. Other then that, nice, clean and tidy.

not sure what that is... but the router i got off newegg.com its just a netgear wireless g router (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833150015). i was thinking maybe i hsould move the router and modem up into the corner, but right now got a very good wired connection and my internet connection seems to be pretty good.. gotta get those soup bowls outta there though lol

Blazin PC, you have a nasty watercooling rig.
Stormy, love the triple monitor setup, and the 2 studio monitors on the sides
And great photos Biztake.

You can see some of the headsets/headphones I have on the desk, a more current pic is below. The speaker system is Hivi Swans M10. Great quality speakers, bout the same as klipsch pro media 2.1's except the klipsch are better in the fact that the controls are on a satellite rather than the subwoofer, and they have a headphone jack.

Yep, those are indeed the Z5500's :) I used it for everything (PC and 360) until I got my Astro A40's so now they're my dedicated PC speakers.I love the mini-receiver it has (thing with the big volume dial) since my biggest gripe with other small systems is you can generally only have one source at a time.

It's an Antec 900. In retrospect, I think I should have gone with a Cooler Master HAF 932, or an Antec 1200. With the aftermarket heatsink and a non modular PSU, the inside of my case is like 1 giant heap of cables lol.

yep. did a DIY acoustic panel made of acoustic tiles (not the highest NRC rating but works well enough and cheap, too. Made by USG). The panel fabric was more expensive though:( My walls are just wood panels without insulation behind it, so the echoes were annoying as hell.

Nice! It was a dream of mine long ago to be a Music Recording Engineer, but that never happened. We did a lot of in-house recording stuff, and I made a bunch of very DIY acoustic paneling using egg cartons attached to the walls. LOL. I'm sure your panels work a lot better than mine did.

Yes CAD based work, I specialize in plastic part design. I was especially admiring some of the Astro plastic part's handy work. As you can probably see on screen I have replicated the Astro Mixamp, I am using it as a template for something I am designing.

Just had a check on the screen.

It does have HDCP Protection on it, so PS3 and Xbox 360 Copy Protections apps away!

The downside I can think of it is the screen is 16:10 instead of 16:9 so it may display two black borders at the top and bottom of the screen.

Yes,

Although it has them black borders it is still a nice monitor. Of course you won't see them on a PC or Laptop due to them being able to run at the native resolution of the screen.

AllTimeMitch

what is hdcp?

High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection or HDCP is a Copy Right Protection. It is used on may DVI and HDMI connections.

I will write a little on it later, but how it works is, it stops people from using HDMI Video Capture Cards to record the Xbox 360 Zune Marketplace for example. However most Xbox 360 games and the Xbox 360 Dashboard do not use HDCP.

However all of the Playstation 3 and PS3 Games use HDCP so unless your display has HDCP you won't see an image.

Here is a Wikipedia Link on it. Have a read (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDCP).

BTW this was a deal I struck with my wife: She gets to decorate the house any way she wants and I get one room for gaming/military equipment. I thought it was a good deal...Well at least I got to get a 32" LCD HDTV out of the deal and those lovely A40s.

So I don't have everything in place yet...but I will be dropping a bomb of a setup over the summer IMO.

Currently I have 2 Xbox 360, and 2 Viewsonic 22" 1080p monitors. 1 Astro A40 audio system. A 20" flatscreen Tube TV, and an original Xbox, for when I get my Halo 1 and 2 on. A 15" Macbook Pro, Razer Lycosa keyboard, and a Logitech MXRevolution mouse. I'll pop a few shots of my current dorm setup when I get out of class and back to the room, but what is to come over the summer is gonna be ridiculous.

I'll explain what I am attempting to do over the summer.

(As of now I own all of this minus like 1 thing, it's mainly just the cutting and tooling I've not had time to do b/c of school keeping me so busy.)

And yes, surprisingly all of this fits inside my case...

I (as of right now) have a Mac Pro tower case (the aluminum shell) stripped and gutted.
I will be making a dock for my computer, within the case. You'll be able to slide the macbook on it's side into the tower (which I have to dremel/cut out), and it will dock up to power, monitor out, USB hus, and firewire. I'll still be able to access the disc drive from the front of the tower. I will also have 1 of my xbox 360s inside the tower right next to the macbook. The optical drive bay of the tower has been removed and I have cut holes for my Astro Mixamp knobs to stick out from the top of the tower, as well as access the power buttons. The cables will be routed out of rubber grommets to the headset resting on my Astro Aluminum headset stand that I just got for my birthday (b/c it matches the tower). I will have an 8 port hub/switch for LAN directly in the back of the tower. So my whole unit, will actually be capable as functioning as the hub. The unit will have a dell slim power supply alongside the inner left bottom, to power my 2 hard drives, as well as the LED lighting that will be inside. I'm planning a Red and Blue MLG theme, and b/c I go to Louisiana Tech University, coincidentally those are out colors. On the outside I'll be working with some minor MLG-esque decal work, and I plan to get my gamertag laser-etched in the door.

The main tower will be hooked to one of my monitors, rather than both :( Because currently I haven't found a way to display 2 separate monitors (not using the laptop) from newer unibody Macbook Pros. The other monitor will be for my 2nd xbox, that will function more as my travel box. This second 360, I actually plan to do some color mods with paint and dye, to be more personalized to me, and I'm planning to theme it more from Halo Reach. The one I pick up and carry to ppls houses and LANS. But when I LAN at my apartment next year, I'll be able to have a full setup (minus a second audio system from Astro) for teammates.

Sounds pretty sweet, Anorexic Leader. I would love to see pics of this finished design.

Not quite sure how you're managing to create a dock for the MacBook... I've seen a sideways (vertical) dock made by Henge, but they had to create a system to allow you to switch out components dependent upon which model you purchased (as the arrangement of the ports changed slightly from model to model).

Haha, thanks.

I was gonna post pics of my current setup yesterday, but Reach beta kept me lazy.
I plan on custom making the dock, fabricating it with metal brackets, and possibly fiberglass. It'll be a summer project, but I'll try to keep it updated. Today once I get off work, I will pop some pics of my dorm though. :)

EDIT: Here is my current desk setup. Only real problem is there is no place to sketch or cut materials for my design classes. (Also I made both those backgrounds in the pics.)

My Desk. New Alienware FTW! Laptop is a Dell XPS M1530. Samsung 32" TV, have it hooked up to the Alienware also for a preview screen in Sony Vegas. Works EXTREMELY well.

Finally got around to taking some pics of my setup at home. The Xbox wasn't set up for playing, so just how the living room normally is.

Crazy. ;)

Nah, but it is a UK Launch Team faceplate. Good eye. They were giving them away at a Microsoft Event they held for the Halo 3 release. Fun event at a few of the MS offices around the country. I attended the largest one in Mountain View with about 400 ppl in attendance. Hope they have something like that again for Reach, but I haven't heard anything yet.

What's funny is that that event happened almost 3 years ago, and back then I didn't even own a Xbox yet. =P I went with the buddies to play, and now I probably realize that the people I know in the industry now were probably at that same event.

Oh, and since this pic, our living room setup changed a bit, since we moved. =P I should do a new picture sometime.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. From my knowledge, that is a Launch Team XBOX 360, that were given to people who helped develope the hardware and software for the XBOX 360. They are ridicolusly rare, probably the hardest to find XBOX 360's there are. But maybe it's just the faceplate for all I know, because I don't see the controller with it. Here's a picture of one.

OK well that makes a lot more sense. I was about to say, those XBOX sell for like $4000 on ebay. I didn't know that Microsoft actually gave out the faceplates for them, that's pretty cool.

Panasonic, 50". Most of my friends hate playing on TV's (especially large ones), but I kinda prefer it over the smaller LCD's (even with the response time). It's a nice "cheap" TV from Costco. =P

And yeah, those Launch Team Xboxes go for a lot, unfortunately mine's just a faceplate of it. The really nice thing about those Launch Team Xboxes are the personalized ID'd hard drives. This link (http://www.flickr.com/photos/majornelson/sets/1481898/) is of Major Nelon's US Launch team xbox (very similar to the UK one).

I don't see how it could hurt to use em on the left stick, but since i only bought one pack and have two controllers, I just use em on the right sticks. =P

My aim has increased. I used to overshoot enemies a lot more (I use a high sensitivity, I believe at around 6-7 in Halo3, and I think 6 in MW2). I do the high sensitivity to aim quicker around corners and what not. By using the FPS Freeks, it helped for more precise aiming, and also made it where I needed my thumb to travel further for longer aiming. My accuracy hangs around the 21.6% mark in MW2.

Nice setup. I think I can just barely see a Gamestation Sticker on one of your cases :P.

Also the Dashboard Theme really stands out nice.

Weird, this post seems a little messed up. 22 pages, yet the "Last page" takes me to page 20 only. I'll see what I can do about it...
