Just got my new a40s in the mail today! I bought a black set from my friend 2 weeks ago, but decided I needed a brand new white one. Nothing beats that new product smell (plus my friend smoked...ugh). Definitely getting rid of the old pair asap. Now I just need to learn to use Photoshop, holy crap is it HARD, to make some kickass custom tags.

Anyways, I'm off to break these suckers in!

Nice LuNaTiiK, congrats. =) If you wanted to keep the old black A40s and just change out the pads, we sell them as accessory replacement parts (http://www.astrogaming.com/products/detail/22/Replacement-Ear-Pads-for-A40-Headset/). The smell is probably only carried through the pads, as they're a spongy cloth-like material.

Yeah I saw the replacements a little while ago. When I first got the headset, I took the earpads off to try and clean em and ended up spending an hour just trying to put them back on when I was done! So I don't really plan on trying that again lol.

I wanted a white headset anyways and the old pair was out of warranty so I figured I'd spend the extra $ to get what I wanted and then just sell the other to offset the cost of the new one.

My mornings lately have been around noon, but I can make the effort to get up "early" =p

Haha, I know exactly what you mean. I took mine off one time, just so I could see what it looked like underneath and to see how hard it would be to put it back on. Took me about 8-10 minutes to get it back on. =P

Just two days ago I decided I wanted to try and disassemble my A40s and see if I could remove the "Space Invaders" plate to spray paint it. Took me a while to find out the black speaker covering was glued on and had some screws behind that. Also, I started freaking out as I removed a few too many screws, and my white frame came apart from the ear cups, and resulting in me panicing that the anchors for the frame fell out of place. I ended up taking apart the whole ear cup assembly and then reassembling it. Took about 45 minutes of work, but what's hilarious is putting the ear pads on took less than a minute for me this time.

So yeah, I talked about painting my space invaders parts long time ago. It'll finally become a reality once I figure out what color i want to do (probably be a royal blue or something).

Hey warblade, I have a question. How come some of the A40s had the red behind where the speaker tags go? I saw them on the white, but when I got my white pair, they were black.

Correct. The first 500 A40s sold were part of their Limited Edition run, which were individually numbered as well as had the red Space Invaders backplate.

Last November when they released the BXR Special Edition A40s, they also included a different color backplate. I'm not sure if they were actual metal, plated plastic, or just a metallic spray, but each one had a slightly different variation in color.

I feel like a failure now. It seriously took me an hour to clean and put my earcups back on =/. I gotta say though, the comfort and general badassery (<--word?) of the a40s more than makes up for all the cords. I won't be going back to Beaches :)

Oh ok, because I think that it kinda looks sick. No way in hell am I taking apart my A40s to do that though, not only do I not trust myself with spraypaint, but I don't think I could get em apart, and definitely not put em bag together and have em work.. The earpieces would end up on the top..
