That is a little ridiculous. I was already a little iffy about paying this much for a headset. I decided to go ahead and do it until I saw it was $75 American to ship to me. I am in Toronto, Canada, Is there anywhere I can buy it from other than this website so I don't have to pay that ridiculous shipping price?

Wow.. that is quite high.

As for alternatives, you could always try ebay or craigslist for second-hand A40s.

Thanks. I could not see those because I am on ebay.ca and those don't list as shipping to Canada. I will ask the sellers though if they will ship to Canada. Thanks.

Wow, really?
I guess I'm not getting A40's then, I also live in Toronto.

I don't understand how it is cheaper to ship them to Alaska then it is to Ontario?

MiNNs

I know its insane. I shipped a 26" hdtv to Ohio for $24 Canadian. I'm pretty sure a small headset shouldn't be any more expensive than that. I just bought a pair for $240 American off ebay that comes with mlg tags and a rechargable battery pack and of course the headset, mixamp, and cables. Hopefully I don't get screwed over.

it's always easy to say it's easy when your not paying the price. I had to pay $85US when shipping to AUS so converting that to our currency adds more to the top for what is already quiet an expensive item. But like others I bit the bullet and ordered them wanting to invest in quality (and praying I NEVER have to send them back)

I believe because it is shipping through all Pacific. I had a $53.40 American shipping charge to ship to Yukon, Canada for the MLG Scout Backpack. That's one of the only things I can think of really..

DBakerr
12-13-2009, 04:23 AM
About the same range as San Francisco - Whitehorse Yukon, Canada. As to San Francisco - Toronto, Ontario, Canada. So one of the only reasons I can think of is Pacific is a little cheaper. It's actually much cheaper and you have OPTIONS to ship to Alaska. UPS Ground $37.37 and UPS 2nd Day Air $52.18. When shipping to Yukon, Canada there is no option, I'm assuming because it's Canada. It's just automatically a one and only ship dealio thing. To ship 'lower' then Alaska in ways.. it's more expensive :) (For me at least.. ) :(

Edit: Actually, Toronto looks longer!

That's kind of ridiculous about the price to ship from there to Canada. I also hope you don't get screwed.
I only had to pay $12.37 when shipping all the way to Ft. Lauderdale Florida from there =/

yea, i live in Belleville, Ontario, and i just ordered my package few days ago. It cost me 69 bux to ship it. In total it was 319 with PrePaid Duties. To be honest, i believe its completely worth it if you are looking for an Astro set.

If you are able to find it on ebay, thats great but it might end up costing more that way.

FYI: it will take only a week to get to you. I ordered mine on Friday(11th) before 1pm PST, and will be here next Friday(18th).

Hey Guys,

I also ordered a pair last week, and I live about an hour from Toronto. It was $69 for shipping. I almost didn't buy them because of this, but since it's a christmas present I did anyways. It's ridiculous that it costs this much for delivery. I understand it's a high quality product, but I have also bought my Street Fighter Tournament Edition Stick from the States and the shipping was $15.

It's highway robbery that you get charged this much. Astro would definitely benefit to fix this. I just noticed they have a stand now, and I wanted to also get custom tags, but with the shipping forget it. I'll be more than happy with the headset and mixamp the shipping is definitely way too much!

Hi Y0UNGmodern,

We're definitely researching a better solution for our Canadian customers but unfortunately, the shipping charge you see is a result of customs and duties. There is no avoiding that without breaking the law.

Please note that custom tags can be shipped via USPS First Class without paying the duties up front. Hope this helps clear up any questions.

Well it's a bit strange that it cost so much to ship. I live in Singapore which is like the other side of the world and it will cost US$81 to ship from astrogaming.com directly to here. Fortunately there are other options which I hope will make it cheaper.

It is good to know that it is being looked into! It does suck that this is a result of customs and duties.

I did notice that but the difference that was shown to me was 2 or 3 dollars.

I understand it's more complicated than most of us may think, and I appreciate that Astro's looking into it. Hell I know I'll probably give in after I get the headset in the mail this week, and want to order the extras! But I do hope something better is found so people who deter because of shipping costs will come back and buy Astro products.

I'm still confused as to why Astro is forced by customs to have their Canadian customers pay these ridiculous duties though. I've had a brand new set of goalie pads shipped from the states, from a retailer, for just the price of the shipping and nothing more. Lots of other times when shipping minimal items (under $100), I haven't had to pay either (except my 1 experience with UPS).

Like I mentioned somewhere else on this board, I believe customs will throw on duties if the item is marked to be worth more than $200, which also confuses me because shipping an Astro headset stand to me right now would be about $57 in shipping.

I don't know if it was out or not before I ordered but I didn't happen to see it when I did order. No big deal, the hard case will do fine, I just thought the stand looked pretty cool.

I know to some it may sound like a lot of complaining, but I do have friends who are now interested in getting Astro A40's with MIXAMPS, but when they asked about shipping they all thought I was nuts for ordering them. I saw past the price because I didn't want to buy crap turtle beach, or trittons that are supposedly prone to falling apart.

My headset should be arriving tomorrow! I have never checked the UPS tracker so much for anything! Can't wait!

ASTRO Gaming is proud to ship our product worldwide -- mostly, with just a couple of exceptions. You've just happened upon one of them. Due to some difficulties with orders from and shipping to Singapore, we've had to remove it from our list of countries available for shipment to. Sorry about that, and if you have any further questions, please contact us.

This is really the only thing holding me from getting a pair of astro's as $250 isn't too much but when it comes around to $400 with shipping that's when it get's too much. I'm just hoping for cheaper shipping to Canada like $10-15.

Just tried to buy the new A*Star headphones, and the shipping calculator quoted me a higher price than the value of the headphones themselves. $82 to ship EARBUDS to Canada? Do they come with 50 kilos of cement? Are they insured for $50 000 000 in damages? What could possibly make it cost to much?

I sincerely hope you manage to get this issue sorted out, I like your products. But I've never had to pay such massive shipping fees from any country, let alone one on the same continent.

(Further searching has revealed an option for USPS shipping, which saves you the exorbitant $40 FexEx lazy tax, but there's no option (that I could find) to select it when ordering. Is this still an option?)

Friend of mine lives in Canada and I live in Michigan. So he's having his stuff shipped to me and then I'm going to ship it to him. This will save him over $50.

What I don't understand is if I can ship to Canada for around $15 why can't Astro?

I live on Guam and I've been wanting to buy a astro a40 wireless. As it is I think that 250 bucks for headset is expensive, but shipping to Guam is $300 extra. So when you guys say that $75 is expensive, trust me for some of us that would be a great price :)

Jeez, after a ton of reviews and whatnot, I finally felt comfortable enough to spend $250+ on my gaming headset system. Part of the reson I wanted Astros soo bad is because it's wireless. Forget Turtlejacks, this is the one I told myself.

So, after a great deal of bickering with my Girlfriend (who thinks this is unnecessary. I don't have any problems cranking up volume on my surround sound system), I finally write it off to an early birthday present (two weeks more!) and start shopping.

A40 system? check!
Recharge pack? check!
A40 custom tags? check!
PS3 Chat wire? check!

Shipping? Wait what? $90??

Why? So I check the forums. Customs and Duties are included? Where are the headset manufactured? I was hoping in North America, for NAFTA!

Fedex duties paid???? I feel this puts the headset out of my price range. Now I gotta hunt on local or ebay listings...

12-05-2010, 05:43 PM
Yea, right now the only thing holding me back from purchasing a system is the ridiulously high shipping cost to Canada. I also fall into the $90+ shipping rate category. Like I've mentioned in another thread, last I heard Astro was working out a deal for us canadians but I haven't heard anything since then. But that's understandable, because since then Astro has released the wireless 5.8 amp, and the in-ear buds, so they've certainly been busy.

So to loosethoughts, all I can say is.....good things come to those who wait?...I hope? I know last May Astro had a duty free sale to Canada, which I unfortuanately just missed by a week or two. I know its only December, but if you can hold off, I would wait it out, cause at the very least, I think another sale like that will happen again. Not gonna lie, I'm tempted to just try and settle with something like the Tritton 720's, but everytime I see pictures of the Astro system and read reviews about them, I just bite my lip and bear the pain. The astros look simply amazing and based on the reviews, their sound quality is top notch. So i'm gonna keep the dream alive and continue to check the forums in hope of good news. Once that shipping rate goes down, I'm gonna hit that "Add to Cart" button like no tomorrow.

I was in the same boat, but I just took the plung anyway and it arrived in 2 days so was pretty happy about how fast I got it. (just ordered it last week)

The problem I have is that even if I order a wire or tags etc now, its STILL the same price as the full system was...

I should add though that I am loving them and happy I did get them, just hope I don't need to replace anything and I need to do my best to resist getting any tags.

Hum, when astro said there were no authorized resellers I assumed there were no resellers. It would be nice if astro put a link to Proper Reserve in the faq to give Canadians a visible alternative to being fleeced by fedex.

With a lot of posts from late 2010.

And when I search for Canada in the forum search bar it says "No matches. Please try some different terms." So when I googled this was the most prominent one.

Now that there is a "solution" you may want to look into locking this thread, especially if opening old threads is such a faux pas, broseph.

necro threads is considered bad forum etiquette broguy

threads that are old tend to fall to the bottom of the pile and only tend to arise when posted in. if you ever have any questions your unsure of, just post a new thread and ask rather than dig up an old one that might have false information in it. that way you get the right info you need
