Even though this is a forum for people who have(and obviously like) Astro gaming headsets, I want your honest opinion. What is better?

Tritton AX Pro ($200)

or

Astro A40 ($300)

Please support your answer with actual evidence and facts, not just "A40 is dope". Thanks.

P.S. If your wondering, I was looking into buying a pair of gaming headsets. However, I couldn't decide which of the two to get.

I have heard that the Tritton setup is much more complicated and less user friendly. I have tried them, and do not remember a huge difference in the sound of the headset.

Assuming you compete in MLG games, I can assure you that ASTRO will be catering to the needs of the competitive community, working hand in hand with MLG's top gamers to ensure that whatever tomorrow's games require, you'll have the best quality to work with. Also, as companies develop new products, such as GUNNAR gaming glasses, they designed the comfortable and slim profile arms with the A40s in mind. ASTRO is setting the standard for console gaming, and now PC gamers are catching on as well.

I've never heard a single complaint about A40's, they sell out at every tournament, and I've never heard of anyone unhappy with the sound, quality, or performance. They have fantastic customer service, and the products work great with other electronics (both the mixamp and the headphones.) Lastly, the Tritton Pro is an ugly headset, whereas the A40s are completely customizable.

Do some more investigating with online reviews, I don't wanna link you to any and be biased, just check 'em out extensively and that should help you out.

Any questions feel free to ask em here.

what are gunnar gaming glasses?

You can check them out at GUNNARS.com. They just teamed up with MLG, and are becoming quite popular.

And Stormy will attest to the fact that they make you photogenic.

I've only used A40's before so I can't give you a honest answer. When I did use them they were great, it was a experience for sure.

i used both astros and tritton, in my opinion astros are better, alot easier to use and the sound is just about the same besides the bass from the tritton.

Although I have not owned a pair of Astro A40's yet, I have played with my friends. My fifth pair of Trittons Died sometime this year around August.

Tritton AXPRO

The Tritton has alot of power going into them, some old models use two power supply which was converted into one on the "V2" models.

The Tritton AXPRO has the problem of not detecting the Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound correctly, instead it will sometimes jump into Dolby Stereo which makes you either restart the console or going to the Dashboard, System Settings, Audio Settings (Not Sure), Selecting Dolby Stereo and then Dolby Digital 5.1 again.

The Trittons feel heavy on my head which is nice but because I have long hair when I looked down a little they would slide over my hair thanks to the weight of the headphones. The Mic can be removed but can only be attached to the left hand side and because the Mic isn't that long it doesn't cover infront of my mouth so I sound quiet on the Mic.

The Bass on the Trittons is unbeliveable and actually quite good for Headphones and so is the independent channels allowing you to make the back speakers louder than the front or vice versa. I tend to turn the Bass down.

The Trittons tend to fail after a couple of months of use of them, my first and second pair failed because the headphones itself would not turn on, the third, forth and fifth either had faulted power supplies or a faulted AMP making the Headphones useless.

Overall I was not happy with them and would not recommend them to anyone. Even if they are designed for Movies aswell as Gaming.

The gunnars are amazing for office work, not so good for gaming. Rather they will make your eyes less prone to strain, but the yellow tint is annoying. If you care about your eyes wear gunnars every time you use a computer or sit up on a TV screen. If you care about colors don't bother unless your doing school work, or job work.

Color Controlled(White in particular) Bias Light + Dark Room > Gunnar Optics for gaming and eye strain.

had the ax pro's pre ordered, they came set them up and hated all the wires and two power bricks are you kidding me lmao. they sounded bad imho and would "pop" if you moved slightly (bad wire design) so i'm say astro's its like driving a bentley or a chevette.

ASTRO"S do not burn through batteries when you use the USB connector. The Rest do.

well before i spent the $263.97 on my astros i tried them all
Tritton AXpro: in my experience i had a hard time trying to figure out how far and in what exact direction the sound was coming from; wich is very important, and also i had i couple of times where the decoder started acting up(no voice sound and muted some times)

Turtle Beach X41: this was by far the most ease to set up and handle. the sound quality was crisp and strong, lots of bass with the bass boost turn on and the wireless set up was neat but after playing just a couple of minutes i notice a cracklin noice. due to the wireless capabilities of the headset the 2.4GHz interfieres with the wireless controller signal so the result is a little but very anoying cracklin sound and after playing for a couple of hours my batteries where dead and this is how i found out they were dead. the headset start making a really loud sound and you can no longer use them, untill you change the batteries.

Steelseries Saberia Neckband: i got this cuz they look awesome. the desing is really eye catching and the retractable mic was nice but thats itthe set up is a pain no decoder here, cuz they are not 5.1 like the guy at gamestop said and by far the worst. i had a really hard time trying to hear others while in the game and i had to go to the options setting in the game and lower the volume almost all the way down so i could hear someone so by the time i finished the set up i ended up not playing because i could not hear the game.

now the astros A40: i was lucky that my buddy introduced me to this guy that also plays MW2 and he told me i could try his pair of headset so while in his party. me and couple of friends went to his room for a little MW2 and i got to tried them for 35 minutes and i found love(please don tell my girlfriend) real, tru love. the sound was good and sounded clear and i also saw room for custimizing, wich is always good.

by the way, i tested this using a optical imput on the x41, axpro, and astros and a line out for the neckband all playing the same game and console except for the astro but it was an xbox360 elite just like mine. i do not own any of this headseat cinse i did returned every single one of them. i got the x41, and the axpro from bestbuy. and the neckband from gamestop. the astros where not mine but i`m waiting for my set`s arrival on 1/21/10. sorry for the typos

Astros are only 300 dollars if you buy the mixamp and headset seperately but ive used trittons and wasnt impressed. So id bite the bullet and buy astros.

My main concern about the Astros vs. the Turtle Beach headphones is the speaker setup. The Astros have only two speakers vs. the 6 in the Turtles.

I'm testing my new A40s right now and am not happy with the discreet channel separation (there is none that i can tell), though that's not the same thing as not being happy with the overall audio quality.

I'm left wondering if the Turtle Beach headphones give better separation; a necessary element for a true alternative when I have to switch off my speakers late at night.
