Hey all, Shadow here just saying hi and to ask everyone a question. Seems like a pretty diverse group of gamers but I think most of us have one thing in common. We all own a Astro A40 audio system. So please feel free to tell your story on what it was like for you from the time you found out about Astro up until you unboxed the beast. Ex: How long did it take to arrive? Were you scared you made the wrong choice or confident you did your research or just plain excited to get something new for you gaming arsenal? Looking forward to getting to know the community.

For something this expensive, I was not going to be an impulsive buyer - it certainly helps when one of your friends buys it first. She purchased the Astro A40 Audio System and I got to test it out once I got to her place. She and her husband kept insisting that these were the best headsets ever. I put it on my head, played GOW2 and LOVED it.

I bought it once my wife approved (it certainly helped that I got a raise at the time). The web site was quite user-friendly and the shipping came within 3 business days. I was sad to read a letter in the package that the MLG tags were backordered and unavailable at the moment. But the same letter also informed me that Astro Gaming provided their original Astro Gaming tags AND would send the new MLG batch to me at no additional cost. Within a month, I had two sets of tags I could interchange.

My wife, in particular, loves the A40 Audio System. With the TV on mute and my headset blasting away, she is no longer annoyed/disrupted by my games' sound effects. All gaming spouses should know and appreciate this necessary feature.

Overall, wonderful purchasing experience.

Wow, I had actually forgot that Mewie and my mutual friend had the headset first. I had thought that Mewie was the originator of our friends. In any case, for my story, I had heard about the headphones mainly from Mewie, and was quite jealous after he had gotten the ok to purchase them from his wife (we're both married (not to each other), and our wives both don't like our gaming addictions). About 10 months passed by, and I joked to my wife about buying the headphones about once a month. I had seriously thought she would buy them for me sometime through the year (anniversary, birthday, christmas, something, lol). Christmas ended up coming, and I got a great jacket, but no headphones. She eventually told me that night that I could go and buy "those headphones" I had been wanting since she knew I had wanted them for so long.

I placed the order the next morning (12/26/09), but unfortunately by that time, the had sold out of the MixAmp and didn't ship them out until 1/4/10 (so just a short wait). They arrived on 1/5/10, and it's been a joyful bliss every since.

Thanks for pointing out that we're not married to each other. LOL

The first time I heard about Astro was when I was playing with one of my friends that was really serious about Major League Gaming. Soon enough I got interested and we were talking about competetive gaming headsets and which were the best, needless to say the A40 Audio System was at the top of that list. Just a couple of months after hearing about the A40s I decided to purchase them. I wasn't really nervous, I knew I made a good decision. I was just so excited when they arrived at my door. Now it's been about 8 months and I'm really happy with my choice, and I'm also the proud owner of the Scout Gaming Backpack and that pretty swanky AC/DC ASTRO shirt.

I first heard about Astros from my now ex-boyfriend Michael. He bought his system in 2008, and spoiled me by letting me use them whenever I wanted. Since I got to experience the quality first-hand, I knew I was making the right choice when I purchased mine at MLG Anaheim in 2009!
I've been hooked ever since =D

When you read this thread on the forumhome, it just sounds funny and I was gonna respond with "i cried and i cried"...lol

I heard about it while scouring the web trying to find ONE decent surround sound headset that I could use with my PS3. I read that A40's and the AX were the way to go but they were kinda expensive, so obviously i had to check them out...lol...after reading reviews all over decided to get them...and then 'i cried and i cried' because they dont ship until march 8 (see what I did there??)

I was pretty sold on the Turtle Beach headsets that I used so much before. I gotta hand it to them they did exactly what you would want from a wireless stereo headset and did it well. Then I heard about the A40's from a youtuber I trusted and started looking up everything I could about them. With absolutely no question for debate the Astro A40 headset is so much better in quality then my x3's that the difference is that of jumping from a mono speaker to a really nice stereo system. After I finished having an eargasm I put the headset through the paces and tried it on all my favorite games and I really couldn't be more happy with my purchase. A minor bonus in my opinion is the x3 controller puck works for the headset as well which I prefer because I don't use that crappy chat pad. Thanks for all the good reads guys and hope to see you online sometime.

Well I first heard about Astro from a post on kotaku. Some random guy said he really liked his A40's and they were the best gaming headphones ever so I decided to do some research and decided right away that there was no way I would ever spend $250 on headphones. After looking for a cheaper alternative, scouring over reviews I found out that I couldn't get what I wanted without dropping some serious cash down. So I decided to save up and buy them but something always came up vehicle repairs, kids needed to go to the DR. And it took forever to save. Then my wife got nosey and asked why I had squirrelled away $200+ and I told her. She laid a huge guilt trip on me and said it was too expensive and we should pay bills so I caved and bye bye A40 money. It was close to christmas and I told everyone what I wanted cash or the A40's. Wife got me a wireless keyboard and mouse, great gift but not exactly what I wanted. Mother in law got me a $20 giftcard to walmart and told me to use it towards my "earphone thingies". Brother got me the same thing I got him.... nothing. And finally Mom, she (bless her heart) bought me a pair of logitech clearchat headphones. I cried....and thanked her from the bottom of my heart. She meant well. So this holdiay season I didn't get exactally what I wanted. Thank god for tax returns. My wife got a laptop and I bought my headphones. They arrived on may 3rd and I was as giddy as a little school girl.

Too bad that the mixamp is having issues but thanks to the awesome customer support and fast replies I'm going to receive a full replacement. The optical imputs are not working for some reason. When I use either a coax or toslink connection aall I get is mono output from the headphones. I did hook it up to my pc via usb and watched an episode of battlestar galactica and was blown away so I can't wait untill I can use the system with my ps3.
