Astros are far superior to X41's.
X41's are wireless and dont offer the same quality as the Astros.
Wireless will NEVER be as good as wired and the 7.1 is bull****, it's really a 7.1 signal squeezed into 5.1 making it seem like it. The signal will be distorted too so it wont even be 5.1
Astro will always be the best headset.

Ever since I've gotten my A40LE's I've never looked back. Prior to them I've gone through headsets all the time, due to crappy quality and service... mic failures to one of the channels going out, rendering the headset useless. I hope you enjoy you're A40's.

wireless is a no-no if you are serious about gaming, Astros are superior by far.

Wired will always be the best choice to go with, since there will never be distortion or any of the other problems that wireless headsets encounter.

I'm going to reassure you on this one: A40's were definitely the right choice!

I'm a big Halo player, and a friend of mine bought the Turtle Beach's. I gave them a shot and instantly realized the quality just isn't there.
A40's are where it's at, my friend. =)

So feel better, your purchase was definitely the right one! :D

i love my a40's and wont trade them for anything.....myabe :p

if your a computer gamer, honestly i would recommend the logitech g35 gaming headphones, they have a wicked control panel on the pc, are the same 5.1 dolby and just a great set of headphones, not to mention 1 single wire for connections to the pc and its covered in cloth which is a nice logitech touch.

honestly my computer pc friends make fun of me and the astros, i dont care cuz i love it, and can use my headphones with any console and pc, their g35's only work for pc's.

and if you want to get technical, dolby digital is really 2 speakers, 1 per ear that SIMULATES surround sound. its all in the processor. because of the magic processor it simulates a 5.1surround sound system. a true 5.1 system would have 5 individual speakers and 1 sub. There are companies that make true 5.1 and 7.1 headphones, all of which i think are trash.

my pc friends bragging that they have "true" thx or whatever have ended in tragedy because all of them are terrible in construction quality

So far from my experience, and I'm a musician with a huge critique of sound quality and product quality and features Astro's are the best option on the market at the moment.

not disrepecting the astros in any way, but i really dont see how 2 speakers to simulate 5 speakers can compare to 5 seperate speakers each with their own seperate channel.

i love the astros and wont ever trade them but a true surround is different. artifical and real will never be the same

The power of the mixamp my friend. While it isn't the same as having a surround sound system I prefer these since they make the experience more immersive. That and neighbours don't bitch

they are dolby digital speakers, I can tell you from personal experience that it does produce a 5.1 surround sound feel, having 5 speakers including a subwoofer crammed into the ear cup would produce a sound with little depth with jumbled messages, the sound quality would suffer.

I believe you have 15 days to send back your A40's if you dislike them, make sure to check with Astro support first.

i think you misunderstand me a little....idk. I LOVE the Astros. i will not be returning them ( over a year with them now)

In headphones i agree with you, dolby digital is the best solution for the exact reasons you mentioned: "having 5 speakers including a subwoofer crammed into the ear cup would produce a sound with little depth with jumbled messages, the sound quality would suffer."

i concur, sound quality would suffer. just think for a second though, your in a home theater (not headphones now) sitting watching a movie, in a bigger areas (a room for example) would suffer with dolby digital sound processing. simulated 5.1 would not sound the same and would require a true 5 speaker system for better audio. that is all im trying to say.

again, i agree with you about the headphones, that is why i purchased my headphones a long time ago. :)

The better the natural surround properties of a headphone the better emulated 5.1 will sound. Such as the DT-770s.

To be honest headphones even with emulated 5.1/DTS provide the best positional audio solution. It is easier to critically listen with the distance between your ear and the driver cut down. (from a gaming perspective where it really counts the most)

Of course nothing can beat the joy and crisper sounding surround of 5 good speakers and the rumble sensations of a good woofer. For musical purity emulated surround sound will never do though. Some people enjoy it though as it makes everything less fatiguing, personally I disable it unless I am gaming or watching a movie.

i was going to do just that this weekend! but i turned on my xbox and i got 3 red flashing lights....again. i bought my box in 05, got it fixed under the extended warranty in 07 and now it broke again. guess im going to have to get out the diy handbook and fix it myself.

i would like to do exactly what you mentioned just to see the difference in sound between game sounds, music and maybe even a movie

Well, honestly, it's simulated sound anyways isn't it?:P The best thing yet is to really just experience it in real life ahah.. which is nearly impossible for most things.

I'm just trying to be dumb, I am also tired so.. yeah =]

Simulated 5.1 just work with your headphones rather than against them.

If you want crazy Bass response and better 5.1

Beyer DT770/80ohm(the mixamp will easily drive them, unlike my version) are almost indisputably the king in this respect. Fudging a mic on them gives you the best of all worlds.

It is common to be skeptical though, generally you would be correct just not in this situation.

I heard from Gambler(one of the best MW2 players so far on GB) that Astro A40's are good but not worth the price tag. He said that you should just buy the Mixamp and get Turtle Beach HPX's and it would sound like heaven. Not only from him but I've also asked around on MLGPro forums and GB forums. Don't know what to do :P
